If you don't want images on the front page of the sub-forum, then you shouldn't use the gallery format. I think you should use the news/magazine format (I would tweak its NAML code to remove the thumbnail images). Please let me know what you have decided.

I think I am going to load all the maps first and then decide. It will take me a while.
50 maps - that would be a lot of thumbnails. I'll see what is what. Looks like the title tags are back to normal? Let me know when they are ready for me to fix the ones without endings.

I didn't touch your title tags. I have no idea of what happened. What exactly should I do with those custom titles? Should I remove the endings with an automated query? |
If you remove the automatic ending then I'll go back and add it in for the ones I removed it from.
I'd like it to be the way it was: It would default to: {post title} | NY Ski Forum but when I got edit it, I edit the whole thing not just the front part. My reason for this is with the MAP section I want to do something like:
{Map Post Title Name} | NY Ski Trail Map Directory or something similar. By not having the ending be automatic I can customize it even though it is part of the same app. Understand? H

This is not so simple. The problem here is pagination. Since you want to show the page number before the ending, the system would have to insert that information in the custom title that you created. For example, imagine you have a title like this:
AAA | NY Ski Forum The subsequent pages of this topic would be AAA: Page N | NY Ski Forum So the system would have to insert that information in your custom title and that isn't easy. So the simplest is to save the custom title as "AAA" and the NAML code appends the page number and the ending automatically. The NAML code can handle this. In other words, if the topic belongs to a forum, then the ending is "| NY Ski Forum". Otherwise, the ending is "| NY Ski Trail Map Directory". What do you think? |
Hugo,
But his is how it was working before? It gave me: {post title} | NY Ski Forum And I could change it, the whole thing to whatever I wanted.
I don't need the NY Ski Map Directory to be added automatically. There are 50(+/-) maps that I want to post and I can customize each one. "POSTS" will never have subsequent pages as they don't get comments.
Are you talking about subsequent pages in the forum itself? There will be (at least) 3 subforums within the map directory so maybe the only subsequent pages would be on the main page. I think I understand this now. If I want to change the specific of the ending (ie the wording) - I'd be able to do that right?

Yes, that text will be in a macro (NAML code). Do you plan to have different endings for each map? If the ending is the same for all maps, then my idea should work fine. |
No the endings will be the same. But I need the ability to test different endings. So I'm assuming I could change the ending in one macro for all the maps?

Yes, that's correct. Changing the macro where that text is defined will affect all maps. |
OK.
I am still unclear though. Will the endings be "editable" through "change titles" or not?

Yes for map posts. No for forum posts (only the subject should be saved in the custom area). Map posts have no pagination, so it is okay to save the full custom title. Forum posts have page numbers, so this should be handled with NAML. Does this work for you? |

Hugo ... this idea is evolving. Everything we've done so far is good, but I want to push it.
Instead of the NY Ski Map Directory, the forum is going to be: NY Ski Mountain Profiles That won't be the title tag if the main subforum but it will probably be NAME of it (the H1). Each profile will feature the map and some key stats. I'd like some of the key stats will show through onto the main page, but probably not the map thumbnail. There will be at least four sub-regions with maps/profiles in them. Currently the main "Profile" sub-app is private so it doesn't have the "change titles" feature. Can you add that in so I can do titles while I am building it in private? Don't need you to do too much more on it now, if you can do that I have work to do before I need more help. I think. EDIT: PS - I have switched to the Newpaper type.

I think so. I would ALWAYS want the ending on forum posts to be CONSISTENT - the same as each other, but I might want to change a word in the future. Sounds like that is doable.
If so I think we are good.

Okay, this change is ready for you. In summary:
1) Custom forum titles shouldn't have endings (they should define only the subject / endings are appended automatically); 2) Map posts have default ending "| NY Ski Trail Map Directory". 3) Custom map titles can have endings (the ending is not appended automatically if you have redefined the title). Please take a look and let me know what you think. |
Hugo I think this is all good.
Next will be: Removing thumbnails from sub-app home pages Removing the "BY LINE:" by Harvey44 • 1:29pm | 2 views | 0 comments Removing the "ARCHIVES" Changing the word "Sub-forum" to "Region." Get to this when you can. I have much to do before it is ready so just let me know when you can get to it and I will be good with that. Thank you very much.

Thank you. Looks good from what I see.
Next - is it possible to change how many listings appear on the first page of that subforum without affecting the rest of the forums? Would like 10. I'd like to change the word "Topics" to "Ski Areas" but only in this forum. Also - and sorry about this - I'd like to add back the option to respond underneath the original post.

In the Options > Application > Change Appearance page (access it from the root forum) you can define the number of topics per app. So you should set 10 in the newspaper section (Preferences tab). Done, please take a look. Done, please take a look. |

Very nice. Thank you.
I'm wondering if it's possible to have text appear in the first post that DOESN'T show up on the main page. Sort of the opposite of the summary feature. Please don't do this yet, just wondering. What I think I'm going to do is have the first post in the "thread" for Trail Map, the second post of thread for "Mountain Stats" and the third post in the thread for "Mountain History." Then I'll allow others to contribute (kind of like Wikipedia) below the third post to try to produce a complete history of each mountain. As such, I'd like to remove the icon for "Classic View" and also either remove the Comment Count of place it below the third post and have the count start from there (ie comment 4 would be shown as comment 1, below the third comment.) If the second option is difficult the first option is fine. Also I would to NOT display signatures, or the line dividing signatures from posts in this sub-app.
