Hi,
currently, everybody who is human and who is able to see characters on a screen and type words on a keyboard is allowed to register in any Nabble forum. There is just the code image which prevents automatic registration: (1) user types in his registration request (2) user passes the code image check (3) the requesting user gets the confirmation request from Nabble (4) after confirmation, the new user is part of the community I was wondering if it was possible to further restrict the forum registration of users. One possibility would be something like this: (1) user types in his registration request (2) user passes the code image check (3) an eMail is generated to a kind of "superuser" to confirm the registration (4) the "superuser" approves the new user (5) the requesting user gets the confirmation request from Nabble (6) after confirmation, the new user is part of the community The background is e.g. the prevention of any registrations anonymous to the "superuser". This could make sense in some cases. Thanks. |
Unless I misunderstand you, the system you describe is already in place.
As you point out Registration is an automatic process that a forum administrator cannot control. However, by adjusting User Permissions you can stop access by registered users and only grant it to Members. An old post of mine may help you understand the approach: http://support.nabble.com/Moderating-free-forum-tp6873076p6873871.html

Hi Greg,
thanks for your quick reply. Indeed, the proposed solution seems near to what I thought of. As I understand it, the only possible reaction would be to dismiss an "unwanted" user after he already got permission to participate (at least read messages) within the forum. One could then set the permissions using "member" roles to enable restricted participation within subforums. Yes, this could be one solution. But what I had in mind was a kind of eMail notification (not while but) before a user gets permission to participate. With the possibility for the administrator to manually regard/disregard the particular registration. This seems not to be possible, right? |
That's available too! Go to: Options > Application > Extras & Add-ons > Email & Notifications > Notify me when someone registers Setting that allows you to decide whether to add someone who has just registered to the "Members" group, giving them the permission to post.

Ok. Thanks.
I thought, it was just a notification without further desission influence. Great! |
All the options does is email you to say a user has registered. The email includes a link to that user's profile page.
On the profile page you can edit the groups to which the user belongs. At that stage the user will belong to "Anyone" and "Registered". You then have the opportunity to add them to "Members" immediately. Alternatively, from that screen, you can email the user to ask any questions you like to confirm their suitability to join your Members group.
