email notifications janky

I am having trouble with getting email notifications on my forum.  The "alert me by email option" is checked, but many are not getting the replies to their post and those that are, are suddenly getting replies to EVERY post on the forum.

Are others having this issue?

We're having a lot of email troubles over at http://www.thinkwithyourheart.net/chitchat.html, is there any way someone can take a look at it or offer comment about it at this time?

Most are not receiving any emails in their inbox as they should according to their various thread subscription choices, or simply by checking the box on the posting screen to be sent an email when anyone responds on a thread.

Just now I had a really interesting error occur...

I just received an email of someone's post in a thread. Their post was a direct reply to SOMEONE ELSE, not me. Yet my subscription setting for that thread was to ONLY receive emails to direct replies to ME. VERY strange stuff!

Because of this, I chose to unsubscribe from the thread entirely, so NO emails would come to me, but I CAN'T UNSUBSCRIBE. The following is the error screen I get when trying to unsubscribe to the thread:

Incidentally, I did not cut off that web page error message, that's exactly how it displayed to me when I attempted to unsub from the thread.

Yeah I do face a similar kind of problem of receiving email notifications. I posted a message pertaining to documentum issue on 12th Aug 2010 for which I have not received any reply yet. I doubt whether it get posted properly to Documentum users or not? Rather I started receiving some junk emails and spam at my official email address because I checked for Email Notification.

There seems to be some problem with the message services. I daily login to check whether there is a reply to my query or not? but all is in vain. Instead I started receiving all junk emails.

Same here...no email notifications from the posts that are directly aimed at myself. In fact I haven't received any email notifications at all for awhile from there.

If possible, please paste the full error message in your reply because I can't understand what is wrong just by looking at the top of the stack you posted.

No, we don't have this option. You cannot subscribe to replies only, you must subscribe to the full thread. The text in the checkbox says "Alert me by email when someone posts to this thread".

Firstly... that WAS all that showed on the page, in my post above. That was part of my point in posting it. But to be certain, I tried again...

So here is what my subscription status on a thread is:


So I chose to ( edit ) it in order to unsubscribe, and here is what I got from nabble in response:



Notice that it is also an incomplete message? That's not me, that's what returns from nabble. And

The option I was referring to is this one...

"Subscribe via email" off the Options menu at top of a thread


and... once the "Subscribe via email" is selected, you get this option screen

...where I chose "Subscribe only to direct replies"

I hope this makes sense? And so far I don't see any improvement, but I have to sort through the threads I participate in and see what my subscriptions are for them, and then test, etc. so I haven't done much of that yet. But the unsubscribe I tried is still wonky, so I showed that to you above.

Hi again, Hugo!

I subscribed to a thread about 20 minutes ago in the manner I described above (First "Subscirbe via email" and then "Subscribe only to direct replies" on the Confirmation screen), posted in it and then replied to my own post... and I never received an email about my reply post. I should have, according to the way it used to work. (The "Alert me by email when someone posts to this thread" was also checked, and still nothing came in my email).

So I'd say that's a resounding "Yes", we still have issues with email!!

Thought I'd post an update...

Though I subscribed yesterday to a thread at TWYH I did not receive any "direct replies" in my email, as I should according to my subscription.

However I DID receive ONE email from the thread, though it was NOT a "direct reply" to me. In fact, it was a direct reply to someone else who posted in the thread. It was the 46th reply in that thread SINCE I subscribed, and there have been a total of 62 posts in that thread since I subscribed, though I only received one in my email, which was NOT a direct reply to me. (recalling also that the "Alert me by email when someone posts to this thread" is also checked and again, only ONE email has arrived out of 62 potentials so far...)

I hope that helps in some way, the seeming randomness of what DOES come through via email, and what doesn't, is truly perplexing from a user standpoint! Perhaps it makes more sense at the programming level?
