It seems there are a few people interested in contributing an Arabic translation.
We at OpenERP Arabic community (http://openerparabia.org/) use Nabble for our mailing lists/forums, and would like to have a full Arabic interface. So, I've started a mercurial repository to collaborate on the Arabic translation. Everyone is welcome to help out. This way, multiple people can work on the translation without replication of efforts, and everything is in one place. Is there a way to test and play with Declension?
I read the Translation Guide for Nabble, and I have an idea of what I should do, but I'd like to test what I come up with before I submit it. Is that possible? |

1. What are all the possible values of the "app" variable?
Mailing list, Gallery, Category, Subcategory, ... ? 2. Some Apps, such as Gallery, are translated into two words. Would that work in the "is_masculine" macro? For example, would this work: <macro name="is_masculine" dot_parameter="noun"> <n.not.regex_matches text="[n.noun/]" pattern="قائمة بريدية|مدونة|فئة فرعية|فئة"/> </macro> 3. For these two-word apps, "the <n.app>" in Arabic is different from "<n.app>" without "the". For example: Mailing list: قائمة بريدية The mailing list: القائمة البريدية Is there a way to handle this? For example, could there be another "theapp" variable besides the "app" variable? (It is also sometimes necessary to add "the" to the translation regardless of whether there was "the" in the original English text. For example, "this <t.app>" would require the "the" version of the translation.) |
That's right: Gallery, Category and Subcategory. It might work. You can create another macro to handle "the app". And you can also test everything in your own app, just save the macros at your naml advanced editor.
My test forum.

Thank you for your answers.
>> 1. What are all the possible values of the "app" variable? > That's right: Gallery, Category and Subcategory. So there are no "Mailing list" or "Forum" apps? Only those three above? > You can create another macro to handle "the app". Is there a simple macro for testing string equality? or is it just "regex_matches"? Better yet, is there a switch-case-like macro? Here is what I'm thinking: <macro name="the" dot_marameter="app"> <n.if.regex_matches text="[n.app/]" pattern="منتدى"/> // forum <then>المنتدى</then> <else.if.regex_matches text="[n.app/]" pattern="فئة"/> // category <then>الفئة</then> <else.if.regex_matches text="[n.app/]" pattern="فئة فرعية"/> // subcategory <then>الفئة الفرعية</then> <else.if.regex_matches text="[n.app/]" pattern="معرض صور"/> // gallery <then>معرض الصور</then> 1. How should I close the <else.if.regex_matches> tags? </else.if.regex_matches> OR </else.if.regex_matches text="[n.app/]" pattern="فئة"/> 2. Is there a better way to do this switch-case-type logic? |
As far as I remember, the possible values are: Forum, Gallery, Newspaper, Blog, Category, Board, Mixed and Subcategory. You should check which ones are masculine and feminine in order to build the right macros for your translation. You can use a switch-case like this: <macro name="the" dot_parameter="app"> <n.switch. value="[n.app/]"> <n.case. value="forum">منتدى</n.case.> <n.case. value="category">فئة</n.case.> <n.case. value="subcategory">فئة فرعية</n.case.> ... </n.switch.> </macro> If you want simple string comparison, you can use: <n.if.equal value1="[n.app]" value2="forum"> <then>...</then> </n.if.equal> |
