Tracking Visitors to my site

How can I track visitors posting on my site? Is there a special program available to use for this?

Exactly what do you want to track?

Who's the most recent person to post?
Who's registered?

Or are you asking a non-Nabble question, related to the hits to the page on which for forum is embedded?

Thanks for responding

I'm not interested in how many hits to my site occur, but I would like to know the identy of whoever posts on my nabble site. Maybe the Email address, IP address, location of poster etc.

Thanks

Hi Ron,

You can't get all you ask for directly from Nabble but with the right permissions set you can force posters to reveal an email address, from which, using other Internet tools, you should be able to track down an IP address and, probably, the location.

Go to OPTIONS > USERS > CHANGE PERMISSIONS and clear the "Create_topic" and "Reply" settings for "Anyone" and set them for "Authenticated". This will force your posters to register which requires that they provide an validated email address.

To keep an eye on who is posting, from the main page switch to TOPICS view, which lists the most recent postings in date order. Alternatively, Subscribe at the top level and every new post will be delivered by email, or even use an Atom feed.

Thanks for the help Greg.

I am new to this and have a lot to learn and appreciate your help.

Could I impose on you for a little more information?

Is there a link on the Internet that you would recommend to trace IP addresses?

If a poster publishes a post on my Nabble site, then unsubscribes, the post automatically is deleted. Is there some way to maintain that post even if the poster leaves?

Appreciate your help

It's not something I've much experience of. I'd just Google "search IP address" and see what comes up.

You need to be a little careful with your terminology. "Subscribing/unsubscribing" refers to requesting that posts be sent to you by email (unsubscribing = stopping them). This will not affect what remains on a forum. Indeed, the version of a post on a forum can be edited by the original poster, but this does not generate a revised email of the edited version.

Any poster can delete their own posts at any time and can also opt for all their posts to be deleted if they choose close their account. As a forum owner you have no guaranteed way of insisting that other people's posts remain in place.

I use this website to locate IP addresses... http://www.find-ip-address.org/
And I use this website to investigate user names and email addresses etc... http://www.stopforumspam.com/

Nabble don't supply IP addresses, but my website itself shows details from which I can work out possible IP addresses of people who have accessed my Forum page. I use the website Find IP Address to find whereabouts in the world they are. They seem to offer all sorts of free tracing services, but I haven't used anything else. I use Stop Forum Spam to see if 'strange' users have been reported as spammers by others. If they have then their IP address may be found there.

Hope this might be helpful.

You can track visitors using the site analytics tool.
I found this tool at http://www.thewebpole.com/  .If you need use this and get the visitor information.
