Franklin, or others, is there any news on the replacement for Nabble?  I'm toying with moving to a new platform and want to know if I should consider the replacement.

Having said that, I'm very grateful for the support you've given my forum for the last several years.  But I'm assuming that at some point Nabble will become a burden for you that you won't want to carry, so am wanting to be ready.

So I'm reaching out to get the latest status.  Thanks!
I'm not Nabble support, but have Nabble running on my Weebly website: http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/

I originally planned to write a replacement for Nabble, but I changed my mind and won't do this.  I only support Nabble for my own use.  Nabble will be around for a while but I think users should look for an alternative.

Thank you, Franklin.  That's not the answer I wanted, but I fully understand where you are coming from.  And thank you, again, for supporting my forum.  I'll start looking for a replacement, but I would like to continue to have the existing one to search for answers, even if we are not actually posting in it.  Will that be possible?

Sure, that's fine.

Thanks, a bunch.  We have a lot of good answers in that forum, and a lot of history documented, so do not want to lose it.

But we have started looking for a replacement so we can get the traffic off your servers.

Gary, would be curious to know what (if any) replacement you've found?

Marc - We are moving over to Invision.  We've already paid them $2050 to do the migration and they will move everything to their hosted service, which will run about $55/mo.

You can see our test forum here.  I hope hear from them tomorrow on getting started on them writing the code to decode our backup from Nabble and will maybe be moving in a few weeks.  But they've not moved anyone off of Nabble before so it may take more time.

Hi Gary. Did you succeed, because your Nabble Forum appears to still be running.

Weebly are promoting Nabble as a Forum Solution - not so smart if it is shutting up shop!  For 4 years now.

I'll check out Invision - it may be embeddable into Weebly also (Javascript)

WE did succeed.  Not "I", but "we".  Go check out the Bullnose Forum on InVision.

The folks at InVision know their stuff.  They'd not migrated anyone from Nabble before, but they knew what needed to be done and took Pass 1 at it.  That we very close but there were a couple of things and they fixed them quickly.  Then after the migration we spotted a couple more things and they fixed them as well.

So we are migrated and loving it.  We have all of our old posts, including pictures and links, and even our own emoticons.

As for the old forum, it may be running but we can't log into it because of the way we set up the DNS.  I'm waiting until Nabble says it'll be deleted and then we'll let it go.  There's apparently nothing there we need.

The pluses are many.  For one, we got the joining process automated so people are required to create a signature and post an introduction before then can post elsewhere.  Works a treat.

And posting pictures is sooooo much easier!  We used to have to train newbies for weeks after joining.  Now we have no complaints.

Plus the messaging system works.

The only downside is cost, and the members are supporting it.

Were they able to migrate people's actual accounts too?  Or did everyone using your forum have to make a new account?

And, who did you contact at InVision to make this happen?

Thanks!
