Invite subscriber module

cheflincoln
Please add the invite subscriber module to the Culinary Educator's Network:  http://culinary-educator-s-network.39461.n6.nabble.com/
One of the reasons I'm using this website is the ease of subscription via email rather than having to go to the forum.
Thank you

It is already possible to give the "Manage_Subscribers" permission to members of any group you choose. See: OPTIONS > USERS > CHANGE PERMISSIONS. That would allow those users to invite others. NOTE: You will probably only want trusted members to have this right, since the permission also allows them to unsubscribe existing members, so it would be wise not to award that right to "Anyone" and "Registered" users.

However, I suspect it would not take a lot to edit the necessary NAML macro to remove the "Unsubscribe" button to make it safer for general use.

You may have seen the recent post by Chang but you'll see his request added a lot of complex facilities that would allow you to monitor those making the invitations and their success rate. You didn't say that that would be a requirement of yours.

Re: Invite subscriber module

I'm responding to this message that came up when I was trying to invite another member:

If you want to invite subscribers, please request this feature in the <a href="http://culinary-educator-s-network.39461.n6.nabble.com/template/[n.support_url/]" target="_top" style="font-size:1em;color:rgb(85,26,139)">Nabble Support forum. We can install this module for you, but the Nabble team must approve this request to prevent abuse and spam.

I have invited people in the past and this message just came up today.  My personal account settings have remained the same and I didn't change any of the permissions for administrators.

Thanks

Oo-er! Yes, that is new! I am surprised by that move.

A while ago Nabble created a special extra tab for me on the Manage Subscribers screen of one of my forums, back when "Invite Subscribers" was called "Add subscribers". This extra tab was first called, "Subscribe Members". I posted the following suggestion:
As an aside, when we've sorted the issues with the "Subscribe Members" tab, I would propose that the standard tab "Add Subscribers" should be renamed "Invite Subscribers" (It's there as a sub-heading already!) as that is the true function of the original tab. That would then allow the new "Subscribe Members" tab to be renamed to its true function "Add Subscribers".
This was taken up, (See: http://support.nabble.com/Convert-Forum-to-Mail-List-tp7580384p7580408.html ) so everyone now has the "Invite Subscribers" tab (which emails people offering them the chance to subscribe) and on that forum I have the second more dangerous "Add Subscribers" tab as well that adds people to the subscriber list without asking for their permission.

At first I thought the new message was intended for my additional "Add Subscribers" tab, but perhaps Nabble have had complaints from people subjected to mass Subscribers Invites.  Certainly, it seems silly that I still have to ask permission to "Invite" but can "Add". They should have put in an extra section in their code that automatically gave people Invite rights if they already had the "Add Subscriber" tab.

I would like to have the module "Invite Subscribers" enabled in http://vwi-wandelen.1083885.n5.nabble.com/ . I want to migrate an existing mailing list to nabble -- that's what the invite feature is for, right?

The invite feature is to send a message to email addresses asking them to register your forum.

Hi there,

the forum is for my speech and language therapy cohort (about 30 of us) who have just graduated. Its a way for us to keep in touch and potentially work on different projects online.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Áine
