Hi, me again - professor trying to create discussion forum with 14 students.
I understand - my students understand the "email by email" AND "daily digest" option for receiving. Problem is - we don't want either. What **I** want is this: 1) to be able to post my assignments for the class so that everyone can read them. It would be great if THAT was the ONLY email notification that went out or came back... 2) to have students get the message about the assignment I want them to do, then just log into the forum - read the instructions for the assignment, do assignments offline, cut/paste - and then send them back to be posted on the forum so everyone else can read them too. THIS IS THE PROBLEM 1) I don't want notification of emails - either email by email or daily digest - I just want to go look and see who's put their assignment in and read what they wrote 2) My students don't want notification of their emails either (they're all either getting tons of emails when all of their classmates post - or the daily digest things - they don't want this and **I** don't want this) 3) ALL I want is for my students to get an email about the assignment - go to the forum - see the assignment, do their assignment offline, log back in and post their assignment. And maybe then, maybe later - log back into the forum to see what their classmates have done with their assignments - and log off... In other words - ALL I want in terms of email is that a notification goes out to each of my students telling them I've put an assignment on the forum, so go look. I don't want to be NOTIFIED if they do - I don't want THEM to be NOTIFIED when somebody posts - WE JUST WANT TO LOG IN AND CHECK WHAT'S BEEN WRITTEN. That's all. Did I manage to make this clear? And is this possible? THANKS!!! maggie mcclellan/assoc prof/SOU/OR |

You can: a) create a single topic for those notifications, and ask the student to subscribe to that topic alone or b) create a sub-forum for those notifications, and ask the student to subscribe to that forum alone. |

Hi Maggie,
If you and your students don't want the email notifications, you guys should unsubscribe from that forum. You can change the subscription by visiting this page: http://n2.nabble.com/user/UserSubscriptions.jtp You can also click on "Options > Users > Manage subscribers" to remove your students. I think you should have a sub-forum called "Annoucements" and only you should post there. Then your students should subscribe to that forum to know when there is something new on the forum. Please let us know if this solves your problem. Regards, Hugo Teixeira Nabble.com |
