Hi There,
Author's who post questions in my forum by default have permission to delete their post and replies.I am not able to disable it.If a user deletes,I end up losing content. Please help me to disable this feature.I want only me the admin to edit and delete posts. This is my Forum Also I want to know if "Delete account" option can be removed? Thank you, Priyanka |
Most contributors to forum's regard contributions are "theirs" not "yours". Most people on most forums post a question, get their answer then disappear. They have no reason to delete content as they remain completely anonymous, only revealing a username that need reveal nothing of the real person behind it. If you are suffer from users who delete their posts you need to ask yourself why they are doing that. The main reason users delete their content is the reaction they get from other users and forum moderators. It is almost always people who have been offended by the responses they receive that will be those who delete their posts. Preventing user's control over their own posts is likely to discourage participation in your forum. So rather than control your users it is generally a better policy to consider how you can encourage appropriate and sensitive responses. Currently, in spite of your claim that you need to register, anyone can post in your forum. Consider changing those settings. Casual users that don't need to provide an email address are far more likely to spam your forum and provide insensitive responses to other people's posts. You could also consider creating a set of sub-forums where trusted users are allowed to post. I have a post about these ideas at: http://support.nabble.com/Moderating-free-forum-tp6873076p6873871.html Removing those options is possible by editing the appropriate NAML macros, but the normal advice would be to avoid such action.
Volunteer Helper - but recommending that users move off the platform!
Once the admin for GregHelp now deleted. |
Hi Greg,
I appreciate your reply.Recently one of my user deleted the content.I wasn't even aware of this for a while."Edit post" option is fine, users have the liberty to edit necessarily."Delete post" is not required, some times it can be problematic.Atleast forum admin should have a say in it so that contents are not lost.So it would be really helpful to disable "Delete post" option. The reason as of now I have allowed anyone to post questions is because of I am relatively new blogger and building the forum so that users will step forward to post questions.I plan to disable that option shortly. But "Delete post" is problematic option. You can see my replies or other member's replies, nobody has answered rudely or said something wrong. It is a totally different issue. I hope you can understand and assist me accordingly. Regards. Priyanka |
You can do it with Naml. Which group will be able to delete posts? It would be good if at least one group has this permission.
My test forum.
