Our "Micromem" private forum has had two members leave and all of their messages are marked as "DELETED". Yet, the text of those messages are still available when performing a search.
Assuming the original messages are still on file but are only marked as being "deleted", can these messages be re-instated to allow current members to view them? The reason why I ask is that "CrazyCanuck" posted a lot of messages about Patents owned by Micromem -- he was a whiz at that kind of stuff -- and the rest of us are having difficulty finding the same information again. It would be great to see his inquiries on Patents so we could learn the process. (This would be a great option for the Nabble Forum Administrator... whether to show the contents of deleted members or not). Thank you JBWolverine (Administrator of "Micromem" private forum http://micromem.3594288.n2.nabble.com/ |

Presumably people can delete their past messages because they WANT their messages deleted.
However, I think some people end up deleting their old messages by mistake. And for that case, it would be nice to be able to "undelete" those messages. |

The must have received a copy of his deleted posts. Could you talk to him and ask for this?

I've always felt that allowing a forum member to delete all content with one click holds forum admins hostage.
We've removed the option in my forum. A member could still delete every single post, but they would have to do it one by one.

Yes, please share how you did this. I'm testing out Nabble and this is one "feature" that is stopping me from moving my list here. When a member decides to leave the group, their posts shouldn't automatically be deleted.

To be honest I don't know how it was done. I'm a member of premium support and I asked Nabble to do it for me.
I'd thought it was done with CSS {display:none;} but I don't see it in my CSS. I believe it was done BEFORE "templates" (NAML) so it may have required a different approach. The whole thing came up when I (foolishly) chastised a member for some anti-social behavior. He got mad and deleted all his posts with one click. It left several important threads in shambles. I learned from this that "moderators" should avoid "moderation" if at all possible. IMO you have to have the TOOLS to stay in control, but refrain, if at all possible, from using them. (I've never banned anyone but spammers). I love NABBLE. LOVE IT. But other forums give ADMINS absolute power, while Nabble developers are at times hesistant to do so. Over the last three years I feel I have gained Nabbles' trust and they have given me more control with various features. In the end it's the admins who DECIDE what forum software to use, and if you want to grow your base, giving admins more power makes sense. IMO it's not Nabble's responsibility to make sure that I am a responsible admin.

I forget where the cost is posted but its like $100 US a year. A YEAR. Maybe a little more. If you are really going to do this it is really worth it. The hourly rate for the custom work I have had done is INSANELY LOW. Below minimum wage. PLUS some of my feature requests are now Nabble wide. That's kind of fun. I want all posts to remain in the forum whether the user deletes her account or not. So I guess I want to get rid of the "remove all posts" portion of the "Remove your account and all your posts" option. Or just not allow a person to remove their account altogether (although I think the first option is preferable).

Actually, here we can only remove the "Remove account" option.
Please, edit your profile_options macro, at the bottom of your code, remove this part: <n.profile_option> <link><a href="[n.visitor.remove_account_path/]"><t>Remove Your Account</t></a></link> <hint><t>Remove your account and all your posts from <t.subject><n.root_node.subject/></t.subject>.</t></hint> </n.profile_option>

Where do I find the profile_options macro to edit it? When I go to the Account Options page and click on the "Edit this page" link in the lower right, I can see a link for the user_profile.naml and see what I need to remove, but I don't know how to actual edit it. Sorry, I'm a newbie and am just learning my way around (but I did check the help section first and I'm fairly computer literate). Thanks, Coleen Coleen Astalos, Stampin' Up! After clicking the "Edit this page" link, to find any macro, click the "cog wheel" button towards the top left of the page.
This opens a menu where you can pick "Search macros" and then choose between a macro name and text contained within a macro.

You click on the "Override this Macro" button, which opens ups an editable view of the code. The original version of the code is shown below that, but you don't edit that. |

Even if I make no changes to the macro at all, and just save the original code, I get the following error: Error: macro or method for 'put_in_head' not found in [basic, nabble, ad] stack = [basic, nabble, ad] in put_in_head(custom_tweak:profile_options:2) - <n.put_in_head.> in (custom_tweak:profile_options:1) - <override_macro name="profile_options"> |
