Hi. Once again, Nabble is amazing and I really appreciate this free service. I just need some help!
I have a site Admin who looks after the forum when I am not there. He can no longer locked useless threads or move posts and topics to the relevant areas?? Why? If it is coming back, when? I asked before if a more detailed User Profile Page was going to being implemented which I was told (Hugo, I think) would be. Do you guys have a rough date for this as it is something that is really popular with the users at my forum. Finally, how are the forums on the home page selected? My forum appears to be more popular than most of them and I just wondered how I can get mine on there?? Thanks in advance for the help and keep up the good work! |
P.S. my forum is located at my site --> http://www.modernwarfare2.co.nr

Does the option to move appear, but the action fails? Or does he see no option to move? Please check that the destination area has appropriate privileges for the user. The Who Can View & Post? page is pleasantly re-designed. Regards Graham |

Can threads be locked? I know that locking was discussed, but I have not seen it implemented in Nabble 2. |
We had a feature to make a post read-only, but this was removed. The problem was that users could still reply to posts under the read-only post. So we will eventually implement a feature to allow the forum owner lock the whole thread, not a single post. |

This should be available in a few months, but we can't predict exactly when we will work on it. I will let you know when we have a better prediction. Forums are sorted by activity. New posts have more weight than old posts. |

Now, that rings a bell. Sorry for the misinformation. Just to get my head around this type of thing… do you mean that people could still reply to threads or posts that originated before the read-only post? (I suspect that we have different ideas of up/down, over/under.) Sounds good. |
Ok, that's great. Thanks for all the help guys.

Imagine this thread: A B C D If B is read-only, people can still reply to A, C and D. |
OK, that's with C and D posted by someone other than the author of B; and with C and D posted before the author of B placed his/her lock on B. Now, I do see the slight flaw in that (old) strategy. If I was the author of B I'd aim to post a fifth item, E A B C D Eand lock that point E (including a note of the lock, and steering elsewhere). In the old way of doing things, would that have prevented replies to C or to D? Looking ahead, to new-style locking of a topic in its entirety I guess that this type of lock will be applicable only by: * the person who opened the topic or * an owner/administrator of the area (forum) in which the topic was posted. Question: if I'm the author of opening post G in a topic such as this: G H I Jand if I lock the topic following J, then does my lock prevent the authors of H, I and J from removing or deleting their content? In other words: a person's lock of a topic should not prevent other people from removing/deleting their own content therein … yes? |
no Locks will affect only new posts. So if your topic is locked, nobody will be able to post replies (except the forum owner). Authors will still be able to remove/delete/edit their posts. This is how things will work: When a owner locks a topic, a new post will be added as the root of the topic. The post will have the explantion from the forum owner. So your topic would look like: X G H I JWhere X is a new post that explains why the topic was locked. Does that make sense? |
Yes, that's sensible. Thanks for bearing with me. Will the explanation be a generic one? If the topic is long, and if I offer the permalink to (lowest) point J, then will the (uppermost) explanation point X be suitably noticeable in all three views? * classic * list * threaded Stepping out of the topic, to its forum: will there be a sign (maybe, a subtle padlock) that the topic is locked? — there may be difference of (administrator) opinion on whether the sign will be necessary/appropriate at that level. Hopefully the last question: if authors of posts H, I or J wish the topic to be locked, do they ask the forum administrator to perform the lock? Or can it be done by the originator, G? |
The explanation would be provided by the forum owner, not Nabble. We still haven't decided about the UI. It may look like a normal post (with maybe a small sentence from Nabble, like "This topic has been locked by the forum owner. The explanation is: ..."). We will make sure it will be noticeable in all view. We can decide about this later. Only the administrators of the forum will be able to lock topics. |
Hi
I need to lock a thread. Have you not brought this in yet? I can't find anywhere to do it. |
Sorry, we still don't have this feature. May I ask you why you need to lock the thread? Your answer may raise the priority of this feature.

Hi Hugo
One of the threads on my forum upset another member and she asked for the thread to be locked so no one else could post anything. As it happens I've just left a message on it asking no one else to post. This is only the 2nd time I've needed to do this so it's not really a problem but it would be a handy feature. |
