Humm... This may be a deal breaker for me.
I'm looking at Nabble as a replacement for a very active Yahoogroup with thousands of members. Most of our users interact with the group via email (instead of using the Yahoogroups website). In our Yahoogroup we have it set up so that a reply (to the email copy of the post) goes to the individual (ie. the author of the post they are responding to). But if they do a Reply-All, it goes to both the original poster and the yahoogroup list (thus is posted on the yahoogroup site as well).
Yes, that does mean that the original poster gets two copies (the direct reply and a copy distributed thru the yahoogroup).
I also understand that with Nabble - only those those that subscribed to the category would get the post, not ALL users (that's perfect).
But what I'm trying to avoid is all users subscribed to the category getting all the responses - most of which are not pertainent to them.
Here is an example:
1) Sally posts a cool idea to the Creative Category.
2) Lisa sends a "reply" email that says, "That's cool, thanks for sharing" (She uses Reply as she wants it to go to Sally as it's not pertainent to the rest of the group).
3) Jane sends a "reply" email that says, "Gee, I should try that" (again, reply goes to just Sally).
4) Nancy responds using Reply-All with another idea to expand the cool idea further. This is pertainent to the whole group and so it goes to Sally AND back to the forum - which then causes to the people who are following the Creative Category to all get a copy.
5) Five more people then respond with "Reply" to Nancy with a note saying "What a great expansion idea".
So in my scenario, most members (those subscribed to the creative category) only get 2 emails (the original post and Nancy's expansion idea) - and that's also what shows online in the creative category form. But what I'm hearing is if we use Nabble, then everyone subscribed to the category would get all 9 emails - ugh (and they'd all be on the forum as well).
It's taken a long time to train my users on when to use Reply and when to use Reply-All. And we generate a lot of traffic every day. I'm worried the email traffic will EXPLODE exponentially if every reply automatically goes back to the nabble category & thus is distributed to all members subscribed to that category. Which will result in a lot of complaints from my email users.
Is there ANY way to customize this? (If the answer is Yes, I'll gladly pay for Premium support to get it done. But if the answer is No, I'm going to have to think hard about whether Nabble is the way I want to go to replace Yahoogroups).
Thanks,
Coleen
