Possible issue: apparently, we're getting repeated random errors

I've seen a few reports from Reaching Perfection members of random Error 500s that hit them for a little while before eventually going away on their own. Since the errors seemed temporary, and one of the screenshots I received referenced SQL and whatnot, I thought them to be one-off problems. That was until I saw one of our admins post this:

This place seems to crash often...
Can someone look into that? I keep getting an Error 500 and so do others who have explained similar situations. They go to open a thread and the site derps.

I've asked that anyone that receives these errors send me as much information as they can. In the meantime, I have a screenshot of one I received on June 21. The pictured error makes reference to a box at the bottom of the forum index, which updates with AJAX to show online users; do you think disabling that might help to address the issue? Are there other steps I can take?
