Lets say, for example, that my website features a "Project of the Week" . This week our users are going to make ornaments, next week pillows.
I create a webpage for making ornaments. I want feedback on how everyone is coming on their project so embed the forum topic for "Ornament Project Discussion" at the bottom of my Ornament Project webpage. In this area, I only want to show posts relating to the "Ornament Project Discussion". If all topics were shown, users would need to navigate before seeing the relevant posts.
If I created a new forum for each project, there would be dozens of forums, and as far as I understand there couldn't be a single point in which all topics (in this case Projects of the Week) could be searched or navigated. Perhaps forums are easier to create and manage than I realize, but it seems like a lot of work.
If I could just set the starting page of the embedded forum to a specific topic, problem solved. It wouldn't matter if the user navigated back to the main topic page. The important thing is that the comments related to the project topic are viewable on the individual project pages.
