Let me add to my response: are you saying that by disabling the link to the mailing list in the application settings I am also changing its functionality? If so that would seem to be a problem with the UI.

Edit:  Somehow, when I disabled that option it also changed the title of the page it's embedded in. That's a problem with the settings UI for sure.
