So far all members are using classic view because it feels more natural.

The most recent topic is always at the top of the list but there is nothing obvious to show whether or not I have read it.

What would be really good is a marker against unread topics

As below on another forum I use is it obvious that I have read the 3rd and 4th posts but still have to catch up on the others
