At the topic level:

bold face is a clue to a message being unread. Compare:







I use List and Threaded views more often than Classic. I guess that in Classic view there is comparable hinting.

At the forum level:

<http://n2.nabble.com/a-new-home-f2115632.html> for example shows the date of the last (most recent) post.
