Recently I have been seeing some warnings about rejected mail on one of my archived mailing lists (http://n2.nabble.com/DWR---Users-f2114559.html). It seems to be a temporary problem as just a few mails get lost on each occasion. Below I include the latest warning mail. At the bottom you can see that the nabble server is rejecting mailing list traffic with a 550 status.
Are you aware of any problems and have a solution? You should read through and do what is needed to keep your archive running properly. If you have just set the archive up and are receiving this email for the first time, then most likely this is a SUBSCRIPTION CONFIRMATION email, please do the following to subscribe your archive to the mailing list: (1) If the confirmation requires clicking a link, then just click the link. (2) If the confirmation requires replying by email, click the link below to compose and send the reply (You can edit the message body if needed): http://n2.nabble.com/mailing_list/SendMessageEx.jtp?node=2114559&addr=users-help%40dwr.dev.java.net&sbj=Re%3A+ezmlm+warning (3) You can also simply reply to this email. It works for most mailing list software. If your archive is already running, then most likely the email is a routine maintenance email from the list. Or it can be an error caused by wrong mailing list settings. Please check to fix errors if there is any. You can always ask Nabble Support if you have questions. Below is the text version of the forwarded email. The unmodified original email is in the attachment. --------------- Forwarded message --------------- From: users-help@dwr.dev.java.net To: lists+1231185278751-2114559@n2.nabble.com Date: Thu Feb 19 23:00:53 PST 2009 Subject: ezmlm warning Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the users@dwr.dev.java.net mailing list. Messages to you from the users mailing list seem to have been bouncing. I've attached a copy of the first bounce message I received. If this message bounces too, I will send you a probe. If the probe bounces, I will remove your address from the users mailing list, without further notice. I've kept a list of which messages from the users mailing list have bounced from your address. Copies of these messages may be in the archive. To retrieve a set of messages 123-145 (a maximum of 100 per request), send an empty message to: <users-get.123_145@dwr.dev.java.net> To receive a subject and author list for the last 100 or so messages, send an empty message to: <users-index@dwr.dev.java.net> Here are the message numbers: 15653 15655 15668 15872 --- Enclosed is a copy of the bounce message I received. This is the qmail-send program at dev.java.net. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out. <lists+1231185278751-2114559@n2.nabble.com>: 216.139.236.158 failed after I sent the message. Remote host said: 550 Rejected |
Any clues on what's causing this?
(Does Nabble's mail server have intermittent problems?) |
Hi Mike,
This was probably the server rejecting some spam messages. We have fixed it to be less verbose in situations like that. Regards, Hugo Teixeira Nabble.com |
Ah, right. Good.
Yes, it would probably be nice not to return an error code
to the originating mail server as this triggers (in this case) the warning
mail.
Best regards
Mike
