moderate posts and replies

hi, is there a way to set a forum so that all new posts/replies require approval/moderation? thx

Sorry, we don't have that right now.

The reason is that it seems very restrictive. Would you post to such a forum if you don't even know if your post will be allowed or not?

I can understand it if you have a super active forum that attracts new users despite such  inconvenience, but is that the case?

We do things based on user requests. So, if you do have an big forum and you need this for your forum to work, we will consider adding it, which is not hard to do. But we just want to make sure it's actually needed.

hello, thanks for reply.  yes we have been running moderated forums for many years.  without moderation these forums would be of much less value and will not be a good choice for many businesses.  please let me know when this feature becomes available.

hi, thank for reply. you can look that up on the front page of www.landings.com... all forums are moderated.  Nabble, is a cadidate for inclusion in a new application that will be released this coming month to allow clients to design and self publish sites, with included forums (not based on current forum code).  with our experience, moderation is a must.

I visited landings.com's forum http://www.landings.com/evird.acgi$pass*106102756!_h-www.landings.com/v9/cgi-bin/forums/forum.pl - In its most active forum, "Airliner Issues", I found that there are only 30 posts for the year 2008. And most of the posts never get any replies. These forums strike me as being overly moderated, to the point that nobody posts. Do you agree? In comparison, an active forum gets 30 posts in an hour.

I would second a request for moderation but for different reasons. I've just come across this system and I LOVE the simple interface and clean uncluttered look.
I work in K-12 public education and would like to use this in that setting. When dealing with children, moderation is a must. We cannot promote using this kind of web service if we can't have control over what appears on the page. I am tyring to push my school district into using Web 2.0 type services including discussion boards to allow students to be active participants in the educational process rather tha passive observers. However, kids will be kids and some will try to post inappropriate links and comments that I need to be able to prevent from posting.

Does this sound like a possible offering in Nabble? Even if it were an option to turn off or on?

In your case, are you going to moderate every posts?

I know some forums moderate new users. So, the newbies will be moderated. When they prove they are not bad, they are set free. Bad users who don't behave can also be put on the moderation queue.

Is that what you want? Does it work on kids?

Unfortunately, yes, we would have to moderate every post. We just cant take the risk of inappropriate content being placed on a school sanctioned site. Ideally, we would assign moderates to each forum, so that a teacher could have a forum for their class, and that teacher would be responsible for moderating their students for that forum.
I would love to think we could move students to unmoderated status, but in this litigious society, that just isn't possible. All it would take is one student to place a link to one questionable YouTube video, or make one inflammatory statement and parent to see that and launch a law suit.

I do not mean to bump an old thread, but it seems to me that there is still no option to moderate or screen posts.

I also would like to use this in a K-12 public school environment, but as mentioned before, in order to protect myself from litigation, I would need to be able to screen posts to look for any offensive/inappropriate/illegal content,

I am not trying to be overly draconian here and in a perfect world I would not need to do this, but when dealing with public education, I obviously have to take more precautionary steps than others.
