Hello Free Support!
Some of my students will use the classroom computers and type in their name for the post. However the computer automatically saves that name and so when the next person goes on they are unable to post with his or her own name. How can I make sure that my students can take turns posting on the discussion board with the option of their name showing on the icon each time they write a message? Also, I like the "classic" format and would like the replies to be seen right underneath the posts instead of clicking onto threaded. Is there a way that can happen? Right now when you hit "reply" it becomes the last post instead of going directly underneath the original messages you are responding to. Thank you for you help. Jenna |

Hi Jenna,
It is true that Nabble, as will most web sites, remembers who was last logged on, even if a browser is closed down. This is handled by a cookie stored on the computer for that computer user. The solution is always to log out from Nabble before leaving the computer, as that clears that cookie. However, what you describes suggests a more fundamental issue - that your students do not have their own username and password with which they log on as they sit down in front of that computer. On communal computers every person should have their own username and password and MUST always log off when they leave that computer. Again, if they logged out as they left the computer then when the next person sat down there they would login under their username and their cookie stored during their last login would be recalled as they opened their browser and opened the Nabble forum. That also is determined by a cookie. Whatever view, "Classic", "List" or "Threaded", was selected by the last Nabble user is the View that the next Nabble user to logon sees. Content below edited after first posting: Clearly, Nabble assumes that each computer user will have their own preferences, but that if the same computer user uses a number of different usernames on Nabble then they will want Nabble to appear the same regardless of the Nabble user they are logged in as. So once again, there is an expectation that normal practice on shared computers will be followed. You logon to the computer as you go to it and any Nabble cookies for that computer user will start to be employed. It won't matter how many different usernames on that Nabble forum that you use, It will always adopt the preferred View for that Computer user.
