how to add "members" to a forum

seba73
Hi there,

I created a forum a few hours ago. Now I wanted to add another administrator.

I went to options > users > who are members? ... and tried to add a coworker who is registered at Nabble.

Neither her user name nor address can be found and I always end up with...

Could not find user: "xxxxx"

What am I missing here?

Altogether... I think I have not understood the user > (registered) user > member logic here.
Can I promote (as an admin) an anony. user to a registered user or member?
How do users "register" for a particular forum in the first place?

any useful hints are highly appreciated.

cheers,

seb

Users are registered per-forum, not globally. Even if your co-workers are already registered elsewhere, they have to register on your new forum too. A good place for them to start would be to click on the "Register" link at the top right.

Once they are registered you can go to Options->Users->Who are members and add specific registered user names to the membership.

Thanks Simon for the quick reply.

Does that mean that there is no way to "register" users once you are logged in as an admin?

cheers,

I believe users have to register themselves, as they have to choose both their username and password. Once they have done that, then you can promote them to member status.

Options->Users->Manage Subscribers->Add Subscribers allows you to send an invitation, but the addressee still has to click on a link to confirm (otherwise spammers could sign anyone up to their mailing lists without consent). I suspect, though, that this only subscribes that person as an unregistered user.

Sadly when I tried this myself I got an Error 500 returned so there is some problem in that part of the system.

Thanks for the help here, Simon. You are very welcome.

We have changed how permissions and groups work, I assume you already know about that.

Do you still have issues with this? The new release should have fixed this bug. Please let me know.
