Some questions about security

PFG
Although I have only bought a week's support for now, I am still in evaluation phase. However, if we use Nabble long term, I shall retain this option.

First, installation of nabble apps was very simple. Thanks for great tools.

I want to operate a  forum on my research group web site, and I wish to restrict posts  and replies to registered members, or approved members, or even members coming from a high level domain only (e.g. only posts from 123.456.xxx.xxx).

I see that unregistered users can make posts/replies. Is there any way I can only allow posts from approved registered members? Ideally, each registration would be held until an admin had approved it, or just dumped.

Or can, I do the same by with an IP restriction (the least preferred option).

Many thanks,
Rob

Re: Some questions about security

Hi, PFG.
Please, take a look at Options -> Users -> Change Permissions -> Create_topic , you can set it only for registered users.
You should also take a look at Options -> Users -> Manage Users & Groups, here you can create groups and insert user on it. Later you can set the permissions at "Change Permissions".
Options -> Application -> Extras & Add-ons -> Email & Notifications could be also useful for you.
Let me know if you have any issues.
My test forum.

Re: Some questions about security

PFG
Indeed, I had just been playing around, and will try that using permissions. However, it seems to me that I have no input in to the 'register a user' pathway. Thus, anyone can register, and I would then have to ban them?

have I missed something. I want to have the ability to aprove registered users. At present, I have made a group 'PFG" and restricted most activity to them. So, my input is to make approved users a member of 'PFG group, it seems?

I think I follow!

Many thanks
Rob

Re: Some questions about security

Hugo <Nabble>
Hi Rob, you should be able to do that. In this case, you should consider the "members" group instead of "registered". If you set the permissions around the "members" group, people will be able to register, but will not be allowed to do anything until you approve their membership. Please try that and let us know if you need any help.
