SPAM posting from forum are held on moderation by mailman but published to the forum

52n
Hi,
I have a problem with spam. I am using nabble for offering an additional method to access our mailing lists.
When a posting is send to the list via the forum, it could be held for moderation (SPAM or whatever problem) by mailman. At the same time it is directly published to the forum view.
Why is this not synchronized?
Is there any configuration parameter on nabble or mailman for enabling such a synchronization?

Kind regards,

Fundamentally, Nabble works on forum principles, not mail list ones.

In mail list software, such as mailman, a user subscribes without, in any way having to prove their worthiness. So the mail list software supplies a method of controlling what gets distributed to other subscribers - Moderation.

In forum-based software, such as Nabble's, a rather different approach is adopted. A user is expected to prove their worthiness by their actions and is given gradually increasing levels of permissions. Once you've granted a user permission to post, then by definition, you're presuming they will not post inappropriately.

By default, Nabble's permissions are set to allow "anyone" to post. Most administrators, change this only to allow those who supply a username and create a password to post. These are "registered" users. Some administrators go further and the user must demonstrate in other ways, that they are worthy participants, and create a "membership" status. Because a forum is typically, not a single entity, as a mail list is, but will have a number of sub-forums, often multiple levels of user are found on any forum with certain users not allowed to post, read or even view, some areas.

Once you add a web-based front end to a mail list, you must come to terms with these differences in approach. It is up to you how you control permission to post via the web, but once you have granted permission to post via the web, you can no longer "moderate", after the event, in mail list style.

In Nabble you control who can view, create a topic, reply to existing topics and more via OPTIONS > USERS > CHANGE PERMISSIONS. If you need more guidance, ask.
