Remove Avatars for all users

How do I remove the Avatar display for all users?

I've read some threads on this, however, under "Options" I don't have an "Editor" button to "Change Appearance" and make the Avatar smaller.  Any ideas on how to make the Avatar smaller would be great too.

There is not a setting to do this via the main interface. All you can do is make them small. At the top level of your forum go to OPTIONS > APPLICATION > CHANGE APPEARANCE, then on the black appearance toolbar select PREFERENCES > CLASSIC TOPIC PAGE > PICTURE SIZE > SMALL.

Unfortunately, some of the HELP pages are out of date. I suspect that you have been reading one of them.

These days, the NAML that generates the page can be edited and it would be possible to remove the the avatars. However, you should note that they include a small green ball overlay indicating when a user is online, so removing the avatar potentially removes a possibly important indicator to your users. e.g. they can see if you or another reliable poster is available to answer a question immediately.

I have a similar question (and forgive me if this is the wrong place for it): how do I remove the Avatar for just the admin?

Have you tried uploading a transparent .gif file?

That's an excellent suggestion. But why stop there? I could use it as an opportunity to further brand my site by using a custom gif. Thanks for the ideas...!

Certainly lots of customisation is possible with Nabble.

This is a reasonable example:

although these days it's been embedded in a web page that gives it an additional header and menu bar, but everything you see beneath that it is done with some CSS code entered via Nabble's Options > Application > Change Appearance dialogue dialogue.

Hello GregChapman,  and thanks for contributing. I certainly thought of removing the avatar with CSS, but that would affect *all* avatars, and I only wanted to remove the admin's avatar.  However, the site UK HBBR is certainly a source of inspiration as I continue to build and modify my own site,  http://brenhamcity.publishpath.com/ . Thanks for sharing!
