newspapers have columns. Is there any thought to offering a template for a 3 column layout (2columns for news, admin stuff as now on 3rd col)?

Yes, in a few months we will have this feature. Soon users will be able to edit the templates behind the user interface and build whatever they want. We will also offer several ready-to-use designs, including a three-column layout.
