Problems signing up to forum

Hello,

Users have trouble signing up to our forum after they receive and invitation. When they click on the link sent in the email, they are told that they are already signed up for the forum. After this they are indeed added to the forum, but because they didn't get to choose a password, they can't login and submit messages. But an 'unregistered account' is created for the user's email address.

To be able to post messages to the forum, users would then have to select the forgot password link to set their password.

Also, is there any way to add additional fields to a user's profile and make it publicly viewable.
