When you set a forum to private, how come people can still read the topic titles?
Is there away to hide them?

A forum that everyone can view may be described as private if there are restrictions on posting.

Consider two groups of settings:

Control anonymous users
[ ] Allow Anonymous Users
[x] Forbid Anonymous Users

Who can view & post?
[ ] Everyone Can View & Post
[x] Everyone Can View, Only Authorized Can Post
[ ] Only Authorized Can View & Post

If you set your forum to Only Authorized Can View & Post then whilst the public may continue to see the name of the forum, the contents of the forum should become truly private.

Example: log out from Nabble then view <http://n2.nabble.com/user/UserNodes.jtp?user=19440&filter=forums>; some of the private fora are properly visible to the public, others (such as ICT group) require log in and authorisation.

Two things occur to me:

1) private may be not the best expression

2) it could/should be clearer to the creator of a private forum that the title of that forum is visible to the public

— for each issue, I'll create a separate topic.

Regards
Graham

Spun off to obscuring the name of a forum.
