Prevent posted links in message to leave the site where forum is embed

DiditzZz
Hi Nabble free support community, I have a question I'd like to ask.

I have a blogspot where I have embed the Nabble forum as a widget (through html/javascript). I have created a thread called "master list" which contains posted links to useful threads throughout the whole forum. The problem here is, when clicking on the link, it will direct users to the said link ON the given Nabble forum links. What happens here is that the link will force users to leave the blogspot where the forum is embed to, and that is exactly what I don't want it to do. I want to keep users to have rich experience browsing through the forum INSIDE the embed forum, not into a separated forum outside the blogspot.

I hope what I elaborated makes sense. In short, I want to keep users from leaving the blogspot and keep interacting with the embed forum inside the blogspot. How can I do that, or is that even possible? Thank you in advance for reading this question of mine. If any of you found threads with similar questions (answered), please post it here and I appreciate your help.

How is the option for "Open links in a new tab or window" set on your forum.

See: OPTIONS > EDITOR > CHANGE APPEARANCE.

Does changing it help?

Just the same. If I have the option "open links in a new tab or window" ticked, the link will open in a new tab/window INSIDE the forum's link (instead of inside my blogspot). If the option "open links in a new tab or window" unticked, it will open in the current tab, REPLACING the embed forum in blogspot with a full forum (without the blogspot). Either way of those are forcing users to leave my blogspot and that is not what I want. Have you found anyone asking about this issue?

I fear I did not read your original message carefully enough.

I don't think what you want is possible. While I know many site authors want to tie in visitors to their site it goes against the principles that underpin HTML and the web. It's why since publication of HTML4 in 1997 the "target=" attribute to a link, frames, etc, have been deprecated by the W3C.

The thinking is it must be down to the visitor, not the author, how a link opens. So much depends on the platform and the software the visitor uses. The blind frequently use screen readers, for which the whole concept of separate windows or tabs is pretty meaningless.

These days, with tabbed browsing, many people wheel-click every link they open and switch tabs as a matter of routine as a way of avoiding using the Back button, or history facility on their browser and quickly returning to a previous page.

If, as a page author, you used to adopt the habit of forcing external links to appear in new windows and the visitor uses a maximised window to view your site, they think the link doesn't work as it opens invisibly behind his current window.

You may think that with the huge screens now available that no one maximises windows anymore - but now there are Smartphones and netbooks and more and more small screens about for which "maximised" is the only condition available.

In short, the whole concept of keeping visitors at your site by controlling how links open is a bit behind the times. You keep them with you by making your content interesting and internal navigation intuitive (and relying on them having a suitable browser for their platform and knowing how to use it).

Cool, thanks for the info. Hmm, how ironic since it defeats the purpose of having the embedded forum being 'embedded' to my blog...

I have this issue too...

My website offers the facility to select to open an external window either in the current or a new browser window, then on closing, exit will be from the external site leaving my website still open...

I find it hard to believe that Nabble would not consider this as a major requirement. They are currently working on new template software, and I, personally, am hoping that this will sort out a few issues. Nabble is such a good idea that I'm confident that they will consider various ideas when they get a spare minute.

Well good luck for you. I wanted to post now to state that my problem was actually solved! I have found one option in my forum, which is through Options > Embedding options > select Redirect them to : yourwebsitehere

This thread is officially answered. Thank you for the replies. Have a nice day!

Silly me!

I use that option in all my my forums and take it so much for granted, that I forgot even to consider that it might solve your problem.

Sorry!

Re: Prevent posted links in message to leave the site where forum is embed

Thank you anyway! Well now I have a new problem, and I don't feel like creating new threads to post this. I need the admin/someone experienced in embedding Nabble applications into blogspot to help me with this.

I have created my Nabble forum and embedded into my blogspot: raffles-interior-designer.blogspot.com under the tab "RID Community"

I have created a Nabble image gallery and embedded into my blogspot as well, but this time it is embedded through the page elements HTML/JavaScript in the gadget tab below where the Nabble forum is embedded.

I have selected the options > embedding options > redirect to my blogspot for my Nabble image gallery application.

It appears that I found a bug (maybe). When I have both the applications (Nabble forum and Nabble image gallery) integrated with my blogspot, both the application window seems to get 'stuck' at loading image. Both never loads. Sometimes the Nabble forum loads for a while, then disappears. Sometimes only the Nabble image gallery appears and the Nabble forum is stuck at loading image.

I tried to salvage this problem by removing the code for Nabble image gallery (indeed by removing it then Nabble forum started to work again), but that is where the problem lies. I lost the code (Nabble image gallery embedding code), and whenever I clicked on Nabble image gallery applications link from my Nabble profile page, it redirects the link to my blogspot wherein the Nabble image gallery is already gone! I cannot access the Nabble image gallery at all!

So, is it in anyway possible for Nabble administrator to help recover the option for my Nabble image gallery applications to not let the link redirect to my blogspot? In addition, I wanted to have both applications (Nabble forum and Nabble image gallery) integrated to my blogspot, in which clearly this option caused the bug I mentioned earlier.

Hope my post make sense (I was trying hard to explain as clearly as I can). Any help would be appreciated.

So, admin? Can help me with my previous post? Anyways I have a new question, again.

I have seen one of the good Nabble forums by this link here. How to get that sub-forum view? This is the preview of what's inside that link.

I have a similar question...I would like to twitter links to posts in the forum, but only seem to be able to link to the forum itself.  How do I link to a specific post?
