I should add... My previous post was based on the assumption that the owner of the archive changes its options to allow posting via the archive.

It's a message I have not seen before, but from the way it's coded in the HTML, I think it's a system generated message, so presumably appears when certain default permissions are withdrawn. I suppose it is possible that "Create_topic" has been granted but the "Reply" permission removed. OTOH it may be an effect of the bug that appears to have been uncovered in the other topic in which you've posted.

I went to: http://freeradius.1045715.n5.nabble.com/ and used my browser to reveal the source code around the message. It shows: <div class="info-message second-font big-title" style="margin-top:1em;padding:.7em .5em"> <b>This is a read-only archive</b> -- You can only post messages by email. </div>The classes for that <div> are not ones a casual user is likely to add to the description of the archive, so I assumed automatically generated when the archive owner selects certain options. As I said, it's not a message I recall seeing, as an ordinary Nabble user who spends more time than he should researching and posting here! :-) Ah! I think I was answering a different question to the one you thought you were asking! However, your description of how you're posting suggests it could be a setting on the archive that is causing the problem. I have never used Nabble to archive a list maintained elsewhere, so am unsure of all the differences - though in the main it will be more a case of similarities. That will be the archive administrator. Now I look on the archive's Home page, that appears to be "Hugo <Nabble>", one of the Nabble team - which is surprising and unusual! Clicking on the link on his id, reveals he has some unusual group memberships. It seems clear that Hugo has been involved in "rescuing" the archive in some way, probably around the time he registered. If Pedro (the current Nabble Support main man) doesn't come along soon and sort this out then I'd suggest an email to Hugo would be the appropriate action. Having found all this I see why the mail list owners referred you to Nabble. It seems likely that the owners of the list itself have minimal, or no involvement, with the archive, hence their suggestion that you talk to Nabble about this problem. It could be you are asking the wrong question of them, or they are giving answers to a different question to the one you thought you were asking? One needs to be absolutely clear whether people are posting through Nabble's web interface to the archive, or if they are using one of the cloaked Nabble-generated email addresses to send via the Nabble archive or just posting conventionally through email client direct to the mail list server, plus any of the other possibilities (e.g. posting to Nabble using a non-registered address, not using the cloaked address when appropriate), not to mention some customised code that Hugo added that could have unintended side effects.

That is a standard message! It tells you that the archive owner should be able sort it out - but the fall back is to come here. The archive is unusual, in that it contains two lists, with a common set of registered users, "Users" and "Devel". It could be there is an unintended set of permissions that stop someone replying but allows new topics. Normally, the archive owner would be the guy from the list who also set up the archive. However, in this case, it seems that "the owner" is Hugo, who may need to re-check with the list owners exactly how they wish the archive to behave.

Is he Hugo? |
Looks like it!
Go to the home page, scroll to the bottom and find the "Created by" link. That will take you to a screen where you can email him.
