Nabble just gave me my first forum and I have no idea how to perform administrative functions with it such as simple changes to the look and especially deleting posts - do I have to pay nabble to be able to perform these features? Does anyone know of a tutorial that could help me to make my own forum?

 Unfortunately the Nabble documentation is a little behind the product in some places, so the best approach is to explore the various options and ask questions here.

To change the look, log on using the username used to create the forum. It will have full admininistrator permissions (Don't logon under any additional username you might have created to check what ordinary users might see.) and open the OPTIONS menu. There you'll find options to do almost anything. The simplest changes to appearance are done via: OPTIONS > APPLICATION > CHANGE APPEARANCE, but explore the others and ask specific questions here.

Visit the post to be deleted and select the MORE link. There's a DELETE THIS POST AND REPLIES option on the menu.

No! You only pay Nabble one of two things:
Premium Support: If you want faster replies than you get here, from the Nabble team, or if you want individual help in reprogramming the NAML code that generates your forum.
