New to all this and have a couple of questions.

Her_Thing
My forum is to be part of a support site for terminally ill people. As such I have a group set up as 'founder members' and some discussions are not for public or even normal registered members consumption. I want to be sure that any discussion between this group on a sub forum is completely private. I have it set so that only 'founder members' and admin can view the subforum. My question relates to what can be seen by search engines. When I submit my website to the search engines and they subsequently crawl the site, can content in the forum be seen?

Also members using tablets seem to have a problem uploading a profile images. I assume this is a software issue with mobile devices and there is little I can do about it. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

A search engine can only crawl those parts of any site that do not require a login to view it.

If you have a sub-forum that has the "View" permission removed for certain groups then those in the affected groups will only get to a screen which invites them to send a message requesting access. A search engine will neither generate such a message nor attempt to register, so the sub-forum will remain private.

The Nabble Team may be able to help by updating the Nabble software if you can provide more information about exactly what the problem is.
What operating system, IOS, Android, Blackberry, etc and what version is being used? What device? What are the symptoms? Are fields inoperative? Is selection from a drop-down lists difficult? Are buttons unclickable (or should that be tapable)?

Or is it a question of the Tablet users not being sufficiently proficient with their device to know where on their device photographs or images are stored, so they can't navigate there?

Hi Greg and thanks so much for your help. As far as the image uploading it seems to be happening on various devices. I only have 6 users while my website is in beta testing. Two of us using PC's had no problems, three have had the same problem using both android (samsung galaxy tablet) and Apple IPad. They are able to upload the picture but can't resize it or crop to size. I don't use tablets at all so its all a bit beyond me. I am waiting to see what happens with the other user when they try it out.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Ah! I think I recall that that is a known issue.

(I've just tried it on my Samsung Galaxy S3 mini phone, and there seems to be no way to grab the re-size handles.)

I suspect the only way to upload an avatar is to ensure that a 100x100px image is available on the device and upload that.

As few phones have an image editing app installed as standard it would either require a download from the device's app store or transfer onto the device of a image ready prepared for the purpose. I await confirmation from one of the Nabble Team.

Hi, just saw this conversation, and was curious about it...

... in some of the past discussions that I've read on Nabble Support, there was an indication that having a combination of public and private areas didn't work if you had selected "Forum" as your top-level app, but did work if you chose "Mixed" or "Category".  Is that still true?  (or was it ever true?)   Just wondering which one is best to pick, as I essentially want "a forum" that has public areas and private areas.

Ah! You could have been recalling things I have written.

Certainly, that was true when I wrote it and I suspect is still true today, though I have not tested it recently as I have had to reason to switch any of my apps back from "Mixed" and "Category". (I suspect that it may also work for "Board", but have not tested it.)

My understanding is that those apps are stored in a particular way and the "Smart Application Pages" option only affects those apps. It is that option that is needed to make "private" sub-forums completely disappear from the screens of those users without access rights to them.
