My members group is huge - over 1000 members. When I try to add a new member to the group, it takes a LONG time for it to process (on the order of 3-5 minutes). My guess is that there is a lot of processing that it has to do checking/comparing the existing list to the new list.
Is there a way I can just ADD a single member to the list without it having to do all this processing? I will always remove members by going to their record under People and and removing the check box for that group. But I really need a better way to just add a member. Also, I've had the problem that sometimes it crashes when it's trying to do the update (Gives me the generic 500 error code) and then my membership list is only partially processed and as a result not everyone is in the members group that should be there. So I've learned to copy/paste the entire list and save it before I try to add someone so that I can try again if I get the error code. Thanks, Coleen |

At this same page: people -> user profile -> Add / Remove Groups -> check the "Members" group.

But if their email is not yet in my system then I won't be able to find them there. So I need a way to add a NEW email address to the Members group.

When you edit the group list, the system remove the old group and create a new one with the new list, removing and adding users. See macro save_users_and_group.
My suggestion is: Only add new users of the edit list, so that, if you want to remove someone you would have to go to his profile and do it. What do you think?

Yes, that is what I want - just add members there and I'll use the profile to remove members. So maybe just a box with a spot to add users. I still need to be able to see all the members in the edit list so I can copy/paste the entire list of current members and compare it to my member management system twice a month to make sure they're in synch. Thanks, Coleen |

Other things are higher priority. So yes while I'd still like it, I have other things I'd rather have fixed first.
