Multiple Subscriptions - what overrides?

If you're subscribed to the overall forum with one setting (say digest)
and then you subscribe to a subcateogory under that forum with a different setting (say individual mail) - both subscriptions are with the same email address.  Which wins?  Or should you get both?

What I'm seeing is that the lower level subscription overrides the upper level one.  Which makes sense.  I just want to make sure that's what is supposed to be happening so I can advertise that to my users.

Yes it overrides the top level.
