Hi,
I recently discovered, to my horror, that all of my beautiful quotes that I made through the Nabble web interface were not shown in the e-mail version that people subscribed "normally" to the e-mail list I was posting to received. I discovered this when somebody gave me a lecture on Netiquette for not properly marking my quoted text. Now I am using my mail client to reply to Nabble messages so that my mail client will create the quotes, but I was wondering if there was some config option I was missing that might insert right angle brackets on quoted lines when sending out the e-mail. It would be the best of both worlds, as Nabble users will see the pretty block quote, and e-mail users will see regular e-mail style quoting. If there isn't such an option, then it would be a very good idea to include this (as a default setting no less) in future revisions of Nabble. |

Posts through Nabble: copies to list are missing quote levels
Posts through Nabble: copies to list are missing attachments Posts through Nabble: copies to list are missing hyperlinks @ danek Re: the first report above: * does the problem that you see fall into the same category? If so, then the forum/list may be bugged by all three. |

Please give us an example which email client is not getting the Nabble quotes right? We use web email such as Gmail and the quotes look fine in it. If your friends are seeing Nabble post mangled, please have him send a screenshot or tell us what email client he is using.

I'm having exactly the same issue and I believe it's fairly recent. I've been using Nabble for over a year and don't recall seeing this problem until recently. Compare my original Nabble post here at 1:43 pm: http://n2.nabble.com/Filter-Selection-Approach-tt2630347.html ...to what appeared in the Mailman list based email here: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/elecraft/2009-April/109074.html Where did the original "Guy, K2AV wrote:" disappear to? I'm not normally on this list so I hope this message goes through. Bill |

I wonder if Nabble forwarded the bolded "Guy, K2AV wrote" in HTML? Most Mailman lists will automatically strip HTML.

This is new behavior! I went back into archives for both Nabble and Mailman for the list I use and determined that Nabble stopped working correctly sometime on April 6. I made two posts using quoted text attributions, one at 8:10 EDT which was correct, and then another at 18:43 EDT which was not correct: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/elecraft/2009-April/108612.html (April 6, 08:10 EDT) http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/elecraft/2009-April/108653.html (April 6, 18:43 EDT) Something changed in the intervening 10 hours to cause the problem. If this cannot be fixed I will be forced to stop using Nabble. |

Well now I'm not so sure. Nabble actually omitted the attribution (in bold) for the first message also. Since there was a quote within a quote, I thought it had worked correctly. Compare: http://n2.nabble.com/K3-audio-td2590280.html#a2592702 (Jack Smith in bold) to: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/elecraft/2009-April/108612.html (no Jack Smith) I'll keep looking but I'm fairly sure this is new behavior. |

AFAICT the various sets of symptoms (maybe one underlying cause) began around 24th/25th March. <http://n2.nabble.com/Posts-through-Nabble%3A-copies-to-list-are-missing-quote-levels-tp2531943p2531980.html> |

I have subscribed to both
<http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft> and <https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support> and have not turned off mail delivery, if/when I receive (in my Inbox) any bugged message, I'll paste the source of the message FAO Nabble. (At <http://n2.nabble.com/Posts-through-Nabble%3A-copies-to-list-are-missing-quote-levels-tp2531943p2636921.html> there's a distinction between messages and archives.) Here, using: * Apple Mail 3.5 (930.3), Mac OS X 10.5.6, Intel * Microsoft Outlook Web Access basic client of Exchange Server 2003 * and other clients. |

Graham IMHO I believe you previously identified the source of the problem above, especially since the date is about right. Many mail lists use Mailman software, which is normally configured to automatically strip all HTML. Attributions on Nabble appearing in bold are stripped by the mailing list software, even though they appear OK on Nabble. |

Historically, rewinding to the good times ;) <http://n2.nabble.com/Posts-through-Nabble%3A-copies-to-list-are-missing-quote-levels-tp2531943p2651888.html> offers an example of how attributions appeared in the past: * whilst bold is not evident, neither quote levels nor attribution were lost. |

danek and Bill, you should find that the issue is resolved.
Thanks to Will and his colleagues at Nabble for the fix. |

Thanks Graham, Will, et al. Now I'll have to retrain myself to post
on Nabble the old (proper) way! :-) Thanks again, Bill On Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 3:04 PM, Graham Perrin (via Nabble) <[hidden email]> wrote: > danek and Bill, you should find that the issue is resolved. > > Thanks to Will and colleagues at Nabble for the fix. > > ________________________________ > This email is a reply to your post @ > http://n2.nabble.com/Marking-quoted-text-in-e-mail-tp2623929p2665539.html > You can reply by email or by visting the link above. > > |
