If we invite subscribers to our mailing list, do they still need to register? Just want to know if if needs to be a two step process to ensure people get all the posts.
I assume you have set up a Nabble archive for an existing mail list. In that case subscribing to Nabble's archive will allow them to receive all posts from Nabble. They will need to register at Nabble to post via Nabble. If your subscribers wish to convert to a web interface they should switch to nomail on your list.
Can you also set up access for us to invite our mentors to the list? mentors.mentornation.ca
You can add any address to the invite list.
Also, is there some instructions for managing the users
Unfortunately Nabble is weak on documentation and I am not at home where I have my records of useful posts here. Try a search.
understanding the difference between members and registered accounts, ie how they get assigned?
Assign users to groups from their profile screen. By default Members have the same permissions as Registered users. Change that via:
Options > Users > Change permission
How ... does one set up approval capabilities for posts
You can't! This is a fundamental difference between a mail list and a forum. On a forum, as you learn to trust a user you you grant them greater access to sub-forums. You may find it best to use the archive only to allow new subscribers to access old posts.
Volunteer Helper - but recommending that users move off the platform!
