Login not working when forum in iframe

Smsnetwork
Hi Support,

I seem to be having a strange security problem.
I have a forum (which has been transferred to S1) which I imbed in my website
using the following code:

<iframe src="http://southern-men-s-shed-network.131.s1.nabble.com/" width="100%", height="600"></iframe>

If I click on the login option, it displays the nabble login screen.
If I enter my correct details, the screen disappears and returns to my web page but still showing as
Not Logged In.
If I right-click the forum link (top left corner) and select to open in a new window and then use the login from the new window, the login screen appears and login is successful.

I've tried this with different browsers (Windows: IE11, Chrome, Edge and Chrome on Android) all with the same effect.

Any ideas how to correct the login mechanism from an iframe imbedded forum?

I'll bet you didn't try with Firefox.  Right?

I have the exact same problem and have reported on it, but no one is helping resolve it.  It is on my forum running Nabble on AWS servers and is on my Test forum on N8.  So it isn't you.  Nabble has a problem they've not addressed.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for letting me know it isn't just senility creeping in.
I'm struggling to think what would cause a problem simply by being contained within an iframe.
I don't think this problem has always been there.
But I do believe some of my users were having a similar problem before my forum was moved to S1, so I don't think that is the cause either.

If we can’t get a solution then I will have to add a button to launch the forum in a new window if someone wants to login to post.

Yes, it ain't us.  In fact, I'll bet if you try Firefox you can get in.  I can on mine.  And could one one Chrome instance until it updated.

You may also notice on some browsers going in via the iframe you can't get a permalink or upload a picture.  Somehow those are linked and work fine when going in w/o the embedding.

It is something Nabble have done.

Hi Gary,

You are right.
I tried it using the Firefox browser and the login works fine within the iframe version of the forum.

How curious. Beyond my pay grade I'm afraid.

Yep.  Firefox works, as do some versions of Chrome.  And some people have found Safari to work on some devices.

I had my Nabble forum running on my AWS servers and was ready to migrate to them and off Franklin's servers, but ran into this problem.  We assumed it was something to do with the way we'd implemented things but then started seeing similar problems that people reported on the Nabble servers.  Then I discovered my own test forum running on N8 is the same way.

I've reported it and Israel responded, but just to say he doesn't see the problem.  But since then there's been nothing from Nabble.  I think they are too busy moving forums to work on problems.

Maybe the problem will go away on the new servers?  Or, are you seeing it on the new servers?

Yes (as I stated in original post) my forum has now been transferred from n4 to the s1 server where this problem exists, but I think the problem had been there on the original server for a little while.

I don't know exactly when the problem started as we haven't been very active during the pandemic.
But now we are coming out of lockdown our group is becoming active again and the forum is starting to be used more, the problem has become more noticeable. .

Sorry, I missed that.

In a way I'm glad that the problem still exists as then they make solve it.  And if that's the case then I can use that code and solve it on my AWS servers and then migrate.

But, I don't want to wish problems off on others, so I'm not glad.

For whatever reason my production forum doesn't have that problem and it is on the N8 servers.  But my test forum does, and it is also on N8.  So I'm lost.

By the way, are you really using iframe?  I'm just embedding my forums using the code that Nabble gives me on Options/Embedding Options.  As said, the production forum works fine and the test forum doesn't, and both are hosted on the N8 servers.

Yes I prefer the iframe border and sizing, but I have also used the nabble script code and both have the same problem.

Ok, I understand.

Hopefully when the dust settles after all of the moves we can get them to fix this.  It has to be something they've done as my test forum used to work just fine, and apparently yours did as well.  So they should be able to figure it out.
