Layout of forum or format? The look of it?

Joe D.
This post was updated on .
I'm not really sure what question I need to ask. I think mostly it's that I don't yet know what I'm doing. When I go to your "Help" area where I can ask questions like this one the layout of the blog is different than what the layout is that I use. All I can do now is do "New Post". Then each post is there on the front page and you have to scroll down a lot to see them all. I want to be able to have different "Topics" listed like are here where then people can click on a "Topic" and join in and make comments or new post within the "Topic". Please, if someone would go to my page and look at what is there and tell me how to make it do "Topics", "Reply", "Last Post" & "Views Sub-Forums" across the top like there is here. There are music lessons there, right now, just three, but later there will be many. I would like for each lesson to be a topic and be listed one after the other so a person could click on and get into that lesson. I just don't know what I'm doing I guess??? The web site is http://negrilmusic.com and the blog tab is "Music Theory Highway". My Email address is joedtaylor@verizon.net and I'm thanking you in advance.

Maybe if I refine my request it will help. I might even need to scrap the forum we now have and start over, it would be easier to do that now when there is not much stuff in it yet. I have never seen anyplace that will allow me to start/establish a "Topic", only "New Post". What I want is for there to be the list of "Topics" on the front page when you click on "Music Theory Highway" tab at the web site. I would like for the first "Topic" to be "Music Lessons" and later maybe "Playing the Keyboard" and "Recording Techniques" and so on as it grows. When someone would click on "Music Lessons" then I would want the lessons, i.e. #1 #2 #3, to show up in sub-groups. I would then want anyone to be able to click on say lesson #2 and work and comment there. How is this "Topics View" thing accomplished? I have searched in help but I guess I'm not smart enough to figure it out. All we have been able to do so far is click on "New Post" and they just keep listing the full "Post/Lesson" on a continuous page. Hopefully someone will have the time to help. Thank you... Joe D.

Hello Tanveer, Thank you for replying! You said to Change the mainforum to board and then follow the other steps, where do I do this? I have look everywhere and can't seem to find where to do this. The "Options" is the only place I can see anything to do any changes. I went and looked at your forum and that is the way I would like mine to function and look. Could you direct me to the right place to accomplish this, I don't know how to get to the right editing area to do this? Thank you, Joe D.

Hello Tanveer,

I have added you as an admin. To get there: negrilmusic.com and click on Music Theory Highway. I would like for the first topic to be "Music Lessons". Then I need the sub groups to be the three lessons that are already there if possible. Later I will need to know how to add new topics and sub groups for the new ones. You don't know how much I appreciate this. Thank you and if you have any questions please let me know.

Hey Tanveer,

Thank you, this is wonderful! I just looked at the forum. I have one other question/request. If it can be done... Can the "topic" on the front page in the "Main Site Section" be "Music Lessons" and then the individual lessons, #1  #2  #3  then be sub post inside/within the main topic "Music Lessons" where a person would click on "Music Lessons" on the front page to get to all the lessons? I am later going to want to add additional topics on the front page with sob post within them. Is this possible?

Tanveer,
You are unbelievable! Bravo-bravo! Now I have a question. How, or I should say, what do I click on to add a new "Topic" in the main site section? I can't seem to find anything to click on to add another "Line item" here. After I click on "Music Lessons" in the main site section I see the "New Topic" button to add lesson #4 and so on. Then after I click on an individual I also see the "reply" button to leave a comment in that lesson.

I just saw where you added "General Talk" in the main site section. What do I do to add a sub topic in this section. You are wonderful!

Hey Tanveer,

I want to tell you... YOU ARE A SAINT! This is what I have wanted this forum to look like forever! I could not have done this. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Actually, this forum is for my good friend in Jamaica, Paul Tucker. He is a very talented and good person that I have been friends with now for ten years. He is also my music producer and he and I have made a CD and are working on our second CD. He has done all the music tracks and I have done all the vocal tracks. I also wrote all the songs. We recorded them in his small home recording studio in Jamaica.

If you are willing... I would love to send you a copy of the CD. If you would provide me a mailing address, anywhere in the world, I will mail you a copy. We are very proud of it and worked very hard to complete it.

I also "Clicked" around enough to figure out how to add "Sub topics" in all the different levels of the forum. I will have to read more to understand the different things like "Pinned" "Parent" and other things. I will also have to explain to Paul haw to work it now, he is the one that is posting the lessons.

Again, thank you very much, you don't know how much it means to me to have this forum set up the way it needed to be. I was getting very frustrated but you have relieved that frustration. THANK YOU!

Please let me send you a copy of our CD. Also go to my web site and check it out.

Question?

Joe D.
In reply to this post by ☪Not_A_Admin
Hey Tanveer,

I am having one problem. I'm am wanting to edit or delete a sub category and every time I click on "Options" all I get are these options at any level.

Subscribe via Email
Post by Email
Structure
                          Create new Sub-Forum
                          Change parent

I don't get the option to edit or delete and I am logged in as admin. Is this possibly because I didn't create the post. Shouldn't I be able as admin to edit or delete any post. I was trying to add a period to one of the topic's descriptions you had put on the front page. Once before when I clicked on "Options", a test sub topic I put up to see if I could do it, I got a different drop down menu with the additional options. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure it's something simple or something stupid that I am doing. Can you direct me to make this work?

Hey Tanveer,

If I were to want or need to edit or reword some of the front page topics
you installed, is there a way for me to do this? So far I have not found a
way to do it. I can only edit things that I have put in as far as I can see.

Yes Hugo, Tanveer did an excellent job!

Yes i realised this is problem as it happened to me aswell, i think you should ask hugo to give you full control of the whole forum/music theory highway page
So then it will let you edit it.

Re: Fourm

Hugo <Nabble>
I set Joe D. as the owner of all those sub-forums. Now he can edit them without problems. I will discuss with the team about inheritance of administrators. This will probably take some weeks to reach a solution.
