Image in email post

I sent out an email post with an image but the image did not show up in the actual email. How can we get the image to be embedded in the email  posts?

I only use a plain text mail program but my understanding is that the image would need to be embedded in the message and not simply attached.

It would  help if you said what email program you use and how you inserted/attached your image (e.g. what menu options / toolbar buttons / drag and drop technique you used) .
