Yes! They must opt in by selecting:
Options > Subscribe via email
and you post in the normal way on your forum.
how can I get to the email addresses of the people in my forum? One of the essence I created the forum is to have email addresses at my dis- posal.
The whole point of a forum is that the users have the choice about when and how they receive and read posts, NOT the forum administrator.
Using any forum software to harvest addresses in order to email multiple people the same message (spamming) is considered very bad practice and is illegal in many countries.
However, if your concern was about sending an individual a private message, then click on their username or avatar anywhere on the forum and you will be taken to their profile page where click a link and complete a form to email them.
