How to make the New Topic displayed in subforum only?

mmpv
I have painstakingly built my forum and I believe it's the only exhaustive forum so far considering that there are lots of subfora in each forum. Please let me know how to remove the New Topic button on link in the main forum so that my members can post accurately in the subforum. Please do help asap. My site is at:

Hi Mike,
You can't remove the "New Topic" link right now, but you will be able to do so in a few weeks. While you wait for this option, I think you can click on "Options > Users > Who can view & post" and select "Members can participate, but restricted topics". This option will prevent members from creating topics in the current forum, but they will be allowed to create them in sub-forums.

Hi Hugo,

Wow, a lot of thanks...I hope the wait is not too long. Anyways, I'll try to follow your suggestion and see what happens.

I see this thread was posted in July and you say in a few weeks you may have this option. As it is December now I wonder if this option is avaliable?

Kind regards

Yes, we do. We indeed implemented that idea a few weeks later, but with a different (and hopefully better) approach. Open your parent forum and then go to "Options > Users > Who can view & post?" and then select one of the options below:

    - Everyone can participate, but restricted topics
or
    - Registered users can participate, but restricted topics

These two options solve the problem. The "New Topic" link won't disappear from the parent forum page, but it will ask you to choose in which sub-forum your message will be posted to.

A real example:
http://n2.nabble.com/RURAL-MAIL-TALK-f581397.html
(try clicking on the "New Topic" link and you will see what I am talking about)

PS. The next release will make this configuration more clear to the user.

Hi, I was searching how to eliminate the same LINK, but I couldn't manage to apply the solution offered in Dic 2009.
I just want people to post un sub-Forums and not at the root!
Is it possible? Tks!

Yes, this is still possible. You should go to your parent forum and click on "Options > Editor > Change permissions" and make sure the "Create_new_topic" and "Reply" permissions are disabled for all groups. Then you go to each sub-forum and enable those permissions for "Anyone" or "Authenticated".
