Hi,
my front page (http://en.ise.link) is of application type "Board", it shows a list of categories with sub-categories. Some of the categories are only permitted to view by Members, so when viewing the page as a public anonymous user, not registered, not logged in, then you see all the private categories and sub-categories in the list, and when you click on them, you are asked to log in. Now I want to hide these private categories and sub-categories completely from view for anyone who doesn't have permission to view them. Anonymous users shall not even see that they exist. Only logged-in members shall see them in the list of categories and sub-categories. I browsed through the options menu, but couldn't find any way how to achieve that. Is it possible at all, and if yes, how? Thanks, Oliver |
Go to:
Options > Application > Extras & add-ons > Content > Smart Application pages That says: Smart application pages If your application has private sub-forums (or any other private sub-app), you can use this feature to make app pages always display the contents that the user can view. In other words, if a user has access to a private sub-forum, he/she will be able to view the private contents from the top-level app. Other users (without access) will only view the public contents. Note: this feature may slow down your app pages a little bit because the system must generate them from scratch for each user. You will probably not notice any difference if your application is small (e.g., less than 5,000 topics). Note: I believe the word I have made bold should read "only".

Thanks Greg,
but it's not working, and "Smart Application Pages" was switched on before. Could it have something to do with the application type (= "Board")? |

NOT working.
The switch does NOT make any difference, neither when it's ON nor when it's OFF. Please test and confirm if you can reproduce. The application type is "Board". Example: http://en.ise.link Application type is "Board". The top category "Members" should NOT be visible to outsiders, but it is. |
I have a "Board app at:
http://www.muddybroadbluesband.co.uk/ and all you'll be able to see is the "News" subcategory. There are half a dozen more that I can see when logged in. Almost certainly this is an issue with "View" permissions. What are your "View" permissions for each group and at each level in your app? It is also possible that it is a mistake to allow any posts at the top level. I would always put even the material that I want "Anyone" to see within a subcategory. It gives a more consistent appearance to the forum.

I checked all view permissions on all levels, they are everywhere the same:
"view" (as well as everything else) : "modified" : only for "members" and "administrators" and "authors" except on the top most level, where "view" is allowed for anyone I don't have any posts at the top level. Everything is in subcategories. my page looks similar to yours: http://en.ise.link except in the right top corner, I don't have the links "refresh" and "permalink". |
Oops!
My mistake. My application is "Category" NOT "Board". I know the "Smart Application Pages" feature only works with certain apps. I know it works with "Mixed" and "Category". It seems you have discovered that it doesn't work with "Board". Sorry! The "Refresh" and "Permalink" links are there because my app is embedded in the only page on the main site!

Thanks! Cool!
Much appreciated, because now I can try to accomplish what I want by using the other application types. Thanks! :-) Cheers |
Tried all application types now. "Mixed" is coming the closest to what I want to achieve, but I don't want the link "New Topic" under each category. How can I suppress it?
