How to Change Posting Permissions?

Hieberter
Hello, Nabble is looking like the perfect way to integrate forums into my website and setting it up was relatively easy - but the one thing I'm stumped on is permissions.

Maybe I'm an idiot and missing something, but I'm struggling to find a way to prevent non-registered users from posting in the forums (and in general when I go into edit the permissions, all the checkboxes are un-editable).

Any help is appreciated =)

To control permissions you need to be logged in as an administrator. From there, at the top level of your forum go to:

Options > Users > Change permissions

This will take you to the Change Permissions screen. There you see a table with the following columns:

Permission name - Default/Modified - Anyone - Registered - Administrators - Members

To change any permission for members of any group you first need to select "Modified" from the second column's drop-down list. Once changed the checkboxes for that row on the table become active and you can add or remove the mark from any box in that row. Once all changes have been made it is important to scroll to the bottom of the table and click the "Save changes" button.

To prevent those in the "Anyone" group from posting you should remove the mark from the "Create_topic" and "Reply" rows in the Anyone column and add those permissions to the boxes in the "Registered" column.

You should be aware registering is a process that anyone can do, including spammers, so if you need to restrict posting to a sub-group of registered users, then you need to additionally use the "Members" group and make changes in that column on the Change Permissions screen too (e.g. remove permissions from the "Registered" group and add them to the "Members" group. You add people to that group manually via:
Options > Users > Manage users and groups ).

Perhaps you will allow all registered users to post in your main forum but only members in a certain sub-forum. You'll find that sub-forums will inherit all permissions from their parent forum, so if you have a "Members Only" sub-forum you'll need to open that sub-forum and once again go to:
Options > Users > Change permissions
In a sub-forum you'll find that second column switches between Inherit/Modified, rather than Default/Modified. Again you will need to select Modified make the required changes and click the "Save changes" button at the bottom of the table.
Volunteer Helper - but recommending that users move off the platform!

That did the trick! Thank-you - I had gone to that page before but I think my colour scheme is set such that the options in the dropdown menu of Default and Modified were light grey, so I assumed I couldn't change that option, hehe.
