I have 'Removed' a test user but the user still shows up on the lists of Registered Users.
What else must be done to have this user disappear from all forum lists, userids, etc. I would like to test again with the same test ID, but I can't do that until I have removed or deleted the id permanently. Thanks! |
What do you mean by "Removed"? There is no way. Once registered a user will forever be registered. Without such a feature it becomes impossible to ban a user and prevent such a user using the same id again. Besides, having a second user of your own is always recommended. As Administrator, you have many extra features that, Unregistered, Registered, Members, etc won't see. With a second user ID you have a way of checking how other users see your forum, particularly when you add private areas or only allow members to post in certain areas. while registered users can post in others. (BTW: You make it difficult for others to find this topic by replying to a topic about removing an entire forum. I recommend you edit your Subject line. You can do this for your own post at: More > Edit post.)

Thanks, Greg.
I am a newbie to Forum admin, so your points are very well taken. I have revised my subject line, as you suggest. I want to test and document a user's experience during Registration and initial Login. I was thinking I could Register a test user, then delete it, then test again, delete it, test again . . . But for the reason you stated, I can't do that. What should my strategy be to test user Registration process, multiple times? |
Hi Steve,
Thanks. That means I felt it sensible to move to its own topic. (Nabble have granted me some limited admin abilities on this forum.) Because registration is totally under the control of users you will find that many sign up who have no real interest in your forum, so there is little point in thinking of Registered users as any more than a set of users who have given you an email address, perhaps one they will never use again. I created GregTest, a forum, where I do all kinds of experiments to see how things work, but for repeated registration tests you'll need a number of email addresses available. (Create some at Google, Yahoo, etc). It's still useful to have an additional user on your main forum. Use it to add and remove various group membership to test how different types of user see your forum and whether changes to user permissions are working as intended. You can change its username and email address if it hasn't got an appropriate one at the moment.
