Hi, I'm a webmaster for a hobby club. I'm trying to find a way to send out group email to a list of people (email addresses of the club members, not Nabble or mailing list subscribers) by posting to a Nabble mailing list, imbedded into our club homepage. So, if any of the club members wants to send out news, he/she can just post it. And, of course, one can read all the postings on the web anytime.
The reason why I need to specify a list of email addresses is that many of the members would not bother registering or do not know how (some barely know how to use email....). So, is it possible? If so, how do I specify a list of email addresses? Thank you for any help. |
I believe that the best solution for you is to get your members to subscribe to the Nabble forum. Let me list a few reasons that explain why this is better:
- If a member replies to the email, the reply will be archived on the forum where other users can read and also comment. - If your users don't know how to subscribe, you can invite them by clicking on "Options > Users > Manage subscribers". They will be able to subscribe with just one click (there will be a link in the email sent to them) and they don't need to register with Nabble to be a subscriber. - Users should have the option to unsubscribe if they are tired of all those emails. Based on your explanation, I guess you want to force them to receive the emails, right? Subscription is better because they can decide what they want. They can even change the subscription to daily digest. Another option for you is to add all emails (one by one) to the "Email this post to..." option available under the textarea where you compose the message. But you would have to do this for each email sent. |
Thank you, Hugo, for prompt reply with useful tips. I didn't know if email could be sent out to a list of email addresses. It'll be convenient and simple for my club members to click the provided link to subscribe. I also didn't know registration to Nabble was not required to subscribe to a forum. This is great and very convenient. I already set it up for our club homepage and sent out email invitation. Thanks again.

Hi,
When a message is posted on the forum, I notice the following after every post:
Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
This distracts people and occupies space. Is this a genuin message warning outdated virus definition? Would you take a look at it? Thank you.

I believe that the problem is in your computer.
Have you tried posting from another computer? We don't have AVG anti-virus on our servers. |

after i have subscribed people (and they have confirmed subscription) how can they change their preference to digest or individual messages without registering? i don't see this option available during or after subscription!

Sorry, we don't have this option. Since Nabble's registration takes less than 2 minutes, users could do this for now while we look for a solution. Do you know how many users need this feature in your group?

Hi Hugo,
thank you for the reply! everyone in the group describes themselves as "computer illiterate" and are familiar only with listservs and digest mode, little more. they did not want to register for anything more. HOWEVER, they also mentioned that they want some security and privacy, which makes registration necessary. I REALLY appreciate how simple the registration process is, and will try a "members only" configuration to start and hopefully won't get too much confusion or too many complaints...we shall see! I do think that offering non-member subscribers a digest option (for completely open forums where "everyone" can view and post via web!) is still important. thanks!
