Get Fail when trying to add an Email Address to Invite List. Advice?

DWixson
Hello,

Thank you so much for your forums! I set one up today for my blog and embedded it in my blog. I want it restricted so only people in our group can see & post to the forum. I understand they will have to register & log in. That's fine.

I used the "manage users/groups" and "manage subscribers" area to add members (their email addresses, they are not registered w/ my forum yet). One of the email addresses would not "take". Just did not show up. Also, I wanted to send a subscriber email to invite these members to the list, using the "manage subscribers" area. Again, this one address had an error message in red, "Failed". The others were successfully added. (I first had to add them as members, but when that was done, they were added just fine. All except this one address.)

Do you know why an email addy might fail like that or not be able to be added? It appears that the email address is not from a standard provider (ie, gmail, yahoo, hotmail), but an email linked to the person's website where they have their own domain name? (Sorry, I don't know exactly how to describe all of this...do not have a ton of current experience.)

Does nabble check the email to see if it's valid and for some reason decides this one is not? (I can email this person from my email program, of course. So, it is a working email address.)

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You will also need to adjust the permissions settings, as Nabble defaults allow anyone to post.
One of the email addresses would not "take". Just did not show up.
Make sure that you enter the addresses in one of the forms that Nabble advise. See their help:

john_smith@example.com
John Smith <john_smith@example.com>

Remove any further punctuation/characters for the addresses you paste in.

Also, I wanted to send a subscriber email to invite these members to the list, using the "manage subscribers" area. Again, this one address had an error message in red, "Failed".
Almost certainly, you are again using an address in an inappropriate format.

"standard provider" will not be relevant "standard format" will.

The script that Nabble uses to process the list will require addresses in a strict legal format. Email programs can be less fussy about the format of an email address (Frequently, they will re-write an address in the background removing illegal characters that people type.)
Volunteer Helper - but recommending that users move off the platform!

DWixson:Thank you. Yes, I had already changed this. I think I have it correct.

DWixson: Yes, I checked this. My format for this email is x@xxxxx.com And, again, I've used it successfully via my email program to send and receive messages to this person.

Also, I wanted to send a subscriber email to invite these members to the list, using the "manage subscribers" area. Again, this one address had an error message in red, "Failed".

DWixson: Yes, I understand what you mean. Again, I used the format x@xxxxx.com I think that is standard, no matter the provider. So, the format is fine according to the instructions. Is there some other reason it would cause a "Fail" error message?

Does nabble check the email to see if it's valid and for some reason decides this one is not?

DWixson: I think it's something besides the format, because I'm using a proper format. I'd type the actual email address, but I don't want that on the public forums, for privacy reasons. But, I assure you, it's a working email and the proper format w/out any additional characters. What stands out to me is that the part after the @ is a website domain name and not a typical email provider like yahoo, hotmail, gmail... But, as I use this format for this person everywhere else, I assume it is a valid address and, of course, again, format. And, as you explain provider does not matter. So, there must be some other issue?

Thanks again for any other pointers.

DWixson would you mind sending me the address (click on my name and send it privately) so I can check if it is a bug?
Nabble staff. We never ask for passwords.
