I am trying to sign up for gvmax to get push notifications sent to my phone and it keeps telling me my creditials are wrong but I know that I am entering the right email and password.

You don't give the URL of the GVMax forum, so I'm guessing that it's a mail list archive hosted by Nabble.

If this is the case is then note that you need to be subscribed to the list itself as well as registered on the forum/archive to be able to interact with the list via the Nabble archive.
