Forum help please

Hi, i'm new to forums and i am trying to get my forum to look like the below picture as for colour and that i can do but i'm having trouble trying to Get the nav bar right, Mine looks like this

This other site looks like this which is how i would like mine

Now i have changed app to Category and get this  but when i ckick on Main Page i get this but there is not a add topic button ??
 
I hope someone can help me here as just writing this was confusing

There are too many below to know to which your refer.

This is the set of options you expect in a "forum" application that is currently empty.

This is the set of options seen when on the "Main Page" and posts are present.
The posts may be in sub-forums and not on the forum's main page itself.

These are the options you see when in either a "Forum" or "Category" application when in "Topics View".

The"Category" application is designed for forums where everything should be posted within a particular sub-forum and not at the top level. Therefore permission to post at the top level should be removed and then over-ridden to allow access for the various sub-forums. For example, you might grant viewing permission to "Anyone", viewing and posting rights to some areas for Registered users, while Members might have access to all available areas. In some cases you will find that users will be presented with a list of sub-forums in which they have posting rights. They will not see the message composition box until they have selected an appropriate area.

This is the set options seen in the "Category" application Main Page.

You'll note that when on the Main Page of a "Category" application you also see the sub-forum descriptions, and a list of all further sub-sub-forums, giving people an immediate idea of where to navigate before they can post.
