I followd the instructions and went for an email subscribing. But I got the following email:

I'm not familiar with how particular mail list software responds, but " Administrative prohibition" suggests that you are NOT subscribed to the mail list. The usual issue with Nabble and Mail Lists is that people register at the Nabble archive and assume that that has subscribed them at the mail list itself. Registering at Nabble allows people to have Nabble's own subscription to the mail list forwarded to them, but it does NOT give posting rights, because they are not recorded as subscribed to the mail list. Can you confirm that you have: • Registered at the Nabble archive of the mail list • Subscribed to the mail list itself.

What do you mean by "Registered at the Nabble archive of the mail list" ?? I am subscribed to the mailing list. This was externally. From the mailman application The steps I followed: 1)Subscribe with mailman 2)sign up on nabble 3)Tried to subscribe to the list within Nabble and got the above email saying that it failed |
When you say "sign up on Nabble" I assume you are talking about doing that at this URL: http://gnuradio.4.n7.nabble.com/ When you first visited that URL you would have seen a "Register" link towards the top right of the page. That page says: This forum is an archive for the mailing list Discuss-gnuradio@gnu.org (more options) Messages posted here will be sent to this mailing list. I do not understand why (or exactly what) you are doing at step three, as Steps #1 and #2 are all you need, to be able either to post to the mail list via your mail program or to post via the Nabble archive. You will then also have the choice of turning off receipt of mail from the mail list so you can keep up to date with traffic on the list solely by visiting the Nabble archive. Bear in mind all the Nabble archive does is keep copies of the GNU Radio mail that it allows you to view and, IF REGISTERED, also to post via the forum, when your message will be forwarded to the mailman list.

I click SUBSCRIBE on the following link
http://gnuradio.4.n7.nabble.com/mailing_list/MailingListOptions.jtp?forum=2 And then I get the email I sent in the first post! |
But you tell us in your second message that you are already subscribed directly with mailman
If you mean you then click the "Subscribe" button at Nabble's archive then that will be why you get that email - mailman will not subscribe the same address twice. What are you trying to achieve? Do you just wish to read the mail list via the web? (That you can do simply by visiting the Nabble archive. There's no need to register at Nabble or subscribe to the list) Do you wish to post via Nabble's archive? (For that you need to register at Nabble AND be subscribed at mailman.) Do you wish to work with the mail list or archive in some other way? If so explain what you want to do.

I wish to read the mail list via the web and also being able to post via the Nabble interface to the mailing list.
I tried a different email adress, one that I had not subscribed with mailman. And tried to subscribe to the actual list via the link from the previous message. I got the FAILED error again. |
I now do understand and accept that you appear to be doing the right things to achieve your aim, both subscribing to the mail list AND registering on the forum.
It begins to sound as if there may be a problem with Nabble's scripts. I note a related issue also has been posted in the last two days. We'll have to await investigation by Pedro to sort this one out.
