Embedding Trouble

carolinekiwi
I just discovered Nabble and was really excited to find a free and embeddable forum.  The only problem is that I am having trouble getting it to embed!

I am using a free blog at wordpress.com.  I've created a static page for the forum.  From my Nabble account, I've clicked the "embedding options" link for the code, then pasted this into the HTML editor for the static Wordpress page.  When I publish the page, I don't have an embedded forum, I just have a link.  I've tried refreshing the page and viewing it in Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.  I can't figure out why it isn't working.

I'm hardly an expert in HTML, which is part of the reason Nabble appealed to me - it seems so straightforward and easy to use.  So if you think the problem might be a really technical one, you'll probably have to walk me through the steps.

I did notice that after publishing the page, the code gets shortened because the "script" code disappears.  I don't know why that's happening.  Any help is appreciated!

I'm considering using this on a self-hosted WP site (actually, considering embedding the forum on several sites on a MU install) and would like to know if this is going to be an issue.  Thanks!

i haven't read the wordpress.com terms and conditions, but others tell me that you need a paid-for account with them to get the facility that would allow the embedding of a Nabble application.

Sorry... I don't know about WP.

trikemailer... Mine embedded OK a while ago... http://welwynhatfield.983918.n3.nabble.com/
NOTE: Go to the outermost layer of your Nabble software.

This is what I did... Select Options > Embedding Options
Then... Copy and paste the coding onto your webpage
AND... Redirect Users..... as per Nabble instructions
Then... Save.

I notice that the heading above the coding is 'Javascript Code'...
I don't know anything about this, but you will need to have Javascript on your PC.

Actually, my PC is telling me that I need to upgrade my Javascript... but mine works OK without that, so I shan't do it...

Re: Embedding Trouble

Hi Anne,
Thanks for the reply, That's what I did but I don't get any options about redirecting users.

Under the code box, it says;

"Redirect Users
Redirect options are available only when the forum is embedded. " so I'm assuming that won't be available until the embedding actually works!

Just tried again and got the same.... just a link!

I notice though that your forum is not on your home domain, it looks like nabble has copied your website structure and wrapped it around the forum rather than embedding the forum in your website.

This may be the problem as the page I'm trying to put it on is password protected as I'm looking to use the forum structure as a project log/discussion area.

Re: Embedding Trouble

OK so it's not the security that's the problem as I just put it in the public website and again it just added a link!

Anne, did you use websitebuilder to do your website? If so, was it the standard version or pro version?

trikemailer... Ooooh, I don't know at all about 'wrapping around' anything. I think there is an issue there in that my website page with the forum is displayed, but it instantly changes to forum only... I would guess that this is a bug...

I use Homestead SiteBuilder on my website... it was very innovative when it first came out, but is a tad dated now... They give us an html element and we just paste the coding into the box...
