I will describe here a situation where not being able to edit somone else's post can be frustrating.
Example: we have 2 subforums in our literature forum:
- Subforum A: a place for new users to say hello.
- Subforum B: a place to make questions (let's say, about which books should we read)
And now this happens:
1. Someone writes in Subforum A:
- subject: hello Im Tim
- message: hello everyone my name is Tim...
2. Someone else replys to that post:
- subject: hello Im Tim (that is, this user doesn't write a new title, which is what happens in most cases)
- message: Hi there, should I read first "Don Quijote" or "Hamlet"?
If the moderator decides to move this last post to Subforum B (which is the right place for the message), it will appear with the original title. In other words, we will see in subforum B a post with the title "hello Im Tim" when a more apropriate title could be for example "Don Quijote or Hamlet?"
If we as moderators could edit the title, the problem would be fixed straight away.
*Not to make the post longer, there are some features related to similar issues that would be nice to see:
- Edit inside the post of a user (for example to remove a word / link against the forum rules).
- Leave a trace when moving a post so a user knows what happened to their post (like: this post has been moved to this thread / this post has been deleted). Alternatively, an option to duplicate a post + ability to edit user's posts could do)
Too lengthy a post, sorry about that
